Using the Copy-and-Paste Technique to Insert a Block that is Data Linked
In a diagram, you can insert a block that is data linked to an assembly or part in the System Tree for either the FRACAS or Prediction module by using the standard Windows copy-and-paste technique. For more information, see Data Links.
1. If the System Tree containing the part is not visible, on the Module Selections toolbar, click the button for the FRACAS or Prediction module. For more information, see Module Selections Toolbar.
2. In the RBD Table, select the record for the diagram.
3. In the System Tree Items table, right-click the row for the assembly or part and select Copy Record.
4. In the RBD Diagram pane, position the mouse cursor in the area where you want to paste the block.
5. Right-click and select Paste Here.
The Specify Source Module window opens if the System file includes both the FRACAS and Prediction modules. If this window appears, complete it and click OK. For more information, see Specify Source Module Window.
A block that is data linked to the assembly or part is inserted in the diagram. The data link button appears near its upper right corner.
6. To hide the windows for the FRACAS or Prediction module, use the Module Selections toolbar to click the button for this module.
In the Calculation Properties window for the data-linked block, the Links page displays a status message of either Linked to FRACAS or Linked to Prediction to show that the block is linked to a system tree item. For more information, see Links Page.
You can also data link any block that has already been inserted in a diagram to an item in another module. For more information, see Linking a Block to an Item in Another Module.

The Edit menu also provides commands for copying and pasting records. Additionally, you can use the standard Windows shortcut keys for the Copy and Paste commands to perform this procedure. They are Ctrl+C for the Copy command and Ctrl+V for the Paste command.
