Temperature Screening Options
The Infant Mortality - Temperature pane provides for specifying information about any temperature screening that was performed. The following table describes the options in this pane.
Option
Description
Temperature Screening
The type of temperature screening that is performed. Choices are:
No Temperature Screening — When selected (default), no temperature screening is performed. Percent Failures from Temperature Cycling and Instantaneous Failure Time (months) are the only options that are available.
Temperature Cycling — When selected, temperature cycling screening is performed. All options become available.
Constant Temperature — When selected, constant temperature screening is performed. All options but Rate of Change (degrees/min) become available.
Minimum Temperature
The lowest temperature recorded during the screening. The default is 0. The range is from -99 to 999.
Maximum Temperature
The highest temperature recorded during the screening. The default is 0. The range is from -99 to 999.
Percent Failures from Temperature Cycling
The percentage of failures that occur due to temperature cycling. The default is 80. The range is from 0 to 100. Because the sum of the value for this field and the value for Percent Failures from Vibration in the Infant Mortality - Vibration pane must always be equal to 100, if you change the value in this field, the value in Percent Failures from Vibration automatically changes.
Rate of Change (degrees/min)
How quickly the temperature cycles in degrees per minute. If Constant Temperature is selected as the temperature screening type, this field is not available. The default is 1. The range is from 1 to 40.
Number of Test Cycles
The number of screening rounds performed during the test. The default is 0. The range is from 0 to 1000.
Instantaneous Failure Time (months)
The number of months that the assembly is expected to operate before failure occurs. The default is 5. The range is from 1 to 240.
Detection Efficiency
The options under this heading provide additional information about the detection efficiency of the temperature screening.
Testing Type
Efficiency %
The type of testing and its screening efficiency percentage. Choices are:
Functional — When selected (default), functional testing is performed. The default for Efficiency % is 65. The range is from 50 to 80.
Functional and Parametric — When selected, functional and parametric testing is performed. The default for Efficiency % is 90. The range is from 80 to 100.
Although the testing type does not affect the calculation, the efficiency percentage does affect it.
Conditions
Efficiency %
The conditions under which testing is performed and the percentage of efficiency for these conditions. Choices are:
Testing at Ambient — When selected (default), testing is performed at the ambient temperature. The default for Efficiency % is 40. The range is from 0 to 100.
Testing Concurrent with Stress — When selected, the screening is performed under stress. The default for Efficiency % is 100 and cannot be changed.
Although the condition does not affect the calculation, the efficiency percentage does affect it.
Isolation %
The percentage that the factors attributed to detection efficiency can be isolated from the rest of the screening process. The default is 80. The range is from 80 to 100.
