General Page
The General page in the Properties window displays basic properties for the active gate or event. All properties on this page are also shown in the FTA Table or Event Table.
Property
Description
Identifier
The unique value assigned to the gate or event. The formats for gate and event identifiers are specified by Identifiers > FTA Gate Identifier and Identifiers > FTA Event Identifier in the file properties. For System files, see Identifiers System File Properties. For FTA support files, see Identifiers Support File Properties.
Gate/Event Type
The type of gate or event. You can change the type by changing the selection for this property. If restrictions exist on the input types for a gate, only valid types are shown. If a gate with no inputs is selected, you can change it to an event. If an event in the System file is selected, you can change it to a gate.
Description
The description of the failure event for the gate or event. It is important that you enter descriptions consistently. For example, in describing the failure event, you should indicate not only what could fail but also how it could fail, such as Switch Sw-418 contacts fail closed. When possible, failure event identification should be a team effort.

By default, the object’s text box in the diagram displays the description in the upper part and the identifier in the lower part. However, you can change the visual properties for diagram objects in the Project’s FTA Style file. For more information, see FTA Style Files.
