As described in FTA Style Files, when Gate and event styles is selected for Style type in the FTA Styles pane, to view visual properties for the style selected in the table, you click Edit Style in the FTA Style Definition pane. You cannot insert custom gate or event styles. You can only modify existing gate and event styles.

On each of these pages, the Preview area displays a sample of the selected gate or event based on currently specified properties. To quickly view the properties for another gate or event style, you use the navigation control at the top of the Properties window.
