FTA Diagram Library File Overview
An FTA Diagram Library file stores entire fault trees and selected for reuse in multiple System files. To insert a tree or branch stored in an FTA Diagram Library file into a System file, you use the Library Browse window. For more information, see Library Browse Window.
All FTA Diagram Library files enabled in the Project are searched in the order specified in the Project properties. For more information, see Setting the Search Order for System and Library Files.
The two panes in an FTA Diagram Library file are basically the same as the two FTA panes shown in the System file when only the FTA module is in use. The FTA Table in this support file uses the same Table Format file as the FTA Table in the System file. You can customize this table using the Format Builder only from the System file. For more information, see Table Format Files.
The following table describes only how the panes in the FTA Diagram Library file differ from the FTA panes in the System file. For general information, see FTA Panes.
Pane
Differences
FTA Table
Displays a table listing all trees and branches inserted in the FTA Diagram Library file.
FTA Diagram
Displays the gates and events for the active tree or branch selected in the FTA Table.
The menus for the FTA Diagram Library file are the same as those in the System file. In some cases, menu commands are a subset of those for the System file. For example, commands for highlighting cut sets, breaking into transfer gates, inserting disjoint event groups, linking data, and inserting labels are available only for the System file.
Properties for the FTA Diagram Library file are the same as the FTA properties for the System file. For more information, see FTA System File Properties. Additionally, under Identifiers in the properties for this support file, you can configure the format for the identifiers to assign to events and gates inserted directly in this file. For more information, see Identifiers Support File Properties.
When you insert a tree or branch from an FTA Diagram Library file into a System file, the pasted library gates and events are assigned new identifiers, just as if you copied and pasted these gates and events from within the System file itself.
While you can view and modify properties for gates and events in an FTA Diagram Library file, pages related to calculation results are not shown because calculations are possible only within System files. You cannot insert transfer gates and fault tree labels in an FTA Diagram Library file. Although you can insert repeated events within a tree or branch, you cannot insert them across other trees or branches in the same library file.
Reporting on FTA Diagram Library files works in the same manner as reporting on System files. However, you must create Report Design files specifically for FTA Diagram Library files. You cannot use the Report Design files made to report on fault trees in System files to report on fault trees in these library files.
While FTA Diagram Library files can reside in the Common Library, you cannot open them from there. You can only open FTA Diagram Library files when a standard Project is open so that the Table Format and other support files that they require are available. For more information, see Common Library.
You can create an FTA Diagram Library file in the same manner as any other file and then insert the trees or branches you want to reuse in multiple System files directly in this file. However, you typically create one of these files by copying a tree or branch from a System file into a new library file.
