Viewing and Managing Windchill Change Object Associations
From a problem, you can view change object associations in the View Associated Changes window. You can also manage associations for this problem by deleting existing associations and creating new ones.
To view and manage change object associations:
1. In the Problems table, select the problem for which you want to view and manage change object associations.
2. Right-click the problem and select View Associated Changes. The Associated Changes window opens, displaying the following information:
◦ View. A link to the Object Information page in Windchill.
◦ Number. The number of the object in Windchill.
◦ Name. The name of the object in Windchill.
◦ State. The status of the object in Windchill. If a Windchill creation task was canceled or is not yet complete, Creating is the state.
◦ Change Type. The type of object created. Choices are CAPA Change Request, Change Request, and Problem Report.
◦ User. The user who initiated the creation.
◦ Creation Date. The date and time when the creation was initiated.
3. If you want to delete an existing association with a change object:
a. Right-click the association and select Delete Association. If this command is unavailable, you do not have permission to delete associations. A confirmation window opens.
b. Click Yes. Only the association to the change object is deleted. The actual change object in Windchill is not deleted or modified in any way.
4. If you want to create an association with an existing change object:
a. In the lower left corner of the window, click New Association. If this button is unavailable, you do not have permission to create associations.
The New Windchill Association Wizard starts and displays the Select Change Type page.
b. Select the type of change object for which you want to search in Windchill. You can search for a particular CAPA request, change request, or problem report.
c. Click Next. The Select Change Object page appears.
d. Enter a part name for Name and/or a part number for Number.
You can use the asterisk (*) as a wildcard character in the search string. This wildcard character matches any number of characters, including zero. Leaving one of these fields blank is the equivalent of entering *.
e. Click Search. The criteria specified are used to perform the search. Results are shown in the table beneath these criteria. Results are not filtered to include only objects with particular affected objects or affected end items. All change objects meeting the search criteria are listed.
f. Select the change object for which you want to create the association and click Next. The Wizard Complete page appears.
g. Click Finish. The association with the selected change object is created and shown in the Associated Changes window.
A window opens, indicating that the object was created successfully. Creating an association does not modify the change object to include the affected end item or affected objects from the problem.
h. Click OK to close the window.
5. When finished viewing and managing associations in the Associated Changes window for the selected problem, click Close.
You can associate a single problem with multiple change objects. Similarly, you can associate a single change object with multiple problems.
Any time you create a change object from a problem, data for mapped data fields and the URL for the problem are sent to the wizard for creating this type of change request.
• On the Set Attributes page, Windchill attributes for the change object are populated with the data from the mapped Problems fields. Your system administrator sets up these mappings in the Project properties.
• On the Set Attachments page, the following fields are also populated:
◦ Label or File Name is set to the display field for the problem.
◦ Attachment Description is set to Open WR&R desktop application to see information about problem-<identifier> in <project Name>. For example, you might see Open WR&R desktop application to see information about problem-‘Problem 2' in 'Project1".
From the Windchill change object, you can go to the Attachments tab for the Details. After you log in to the desktop application, open the corresponding System file and select corresponding problem to view details.
