Report Properties
The headings and parameters that appear in the Report Properties window depend on the module and table with which the report is associated. When you are viewing the parameters for the multiple reports in a Report Binder file, you select the report in the left pane and then view its parameters in the right pane.
If a report in the left pane requires user input for any of its parameters, a required data icon appears on top of the module icon for the report. This icon remains visible even after a required selection is made.
Required Data Icon
For Enterprise reports, the Red-line data changes checkbox appears in the left pane when audit trail data is available and other conditions are met. For more information, see Red-Line Options.
The following table describes all parameters that can appear under headings in the Report Properties window.
Property
Description
Report details
The properties under this heading indicates the table to report on and provide printing and paging information.
Show this report even when it contains no records
Indicates whether to show the report if it has no records when the report is part of a Report Binder file. When you create complex reports using Report Binder files, for each report, you indicate whether you want to hide or show the report when it is empty.
When this checkbox is cleared (default), a report with no records is skipped. Not even the headers and footers for the report are shown in the output.
When this checkbox is selected, a report with no records is included. The report header, page header, page footer, and report summary sections are shown in the output. Because there are no records to show, the Details section is blank. Additionally, no group headers and footers are shown for the empty report.
Assume that you have Report A, with child Report B. For both reports, assume that this checkbox is selected so that the reports are to be shown in the output, even if they contain no records. If Report A is empty, child Report B does not print at all, not even its page header and footer. This is because Report A must have at least one detail record to get to child Report B. Because Report A is empty, Report B is never generated.
Table type
Indicates the table with which the report is associated. This property is display-only and for informational purposes only.
Begin report on new page
Indicates whether the report is to begin on a new page when it is a child report in a Report Binder file.
When this checkbox is cleared (default), the child report does not begin on a new page.
When this checkbox is selected, the child report is printed on a new page. Before printing the child report, a page break is inserted.
The page headers and footers from the parent report are not printed on the child report.
Assume that you select this checkbox for the first child report but leave it cleared for all subsequent child reports. You would output something like incident data on page 1, followed by a page break and data from FRACAS Incidents subtable 1 and FRACAS Incidents subtable 2 on the next page. If you selected this checkbox for each child report, you would have incident data on page 1, data for FRACAS Incidents subtable 1 on page 2, data for FRACAS Incidents subtable 2 on page 3, and so on.
Record selection
The properties under this heading indicate the records on which to report. When properties apply to only some modules, the applicable modules are noted.
*
If Not available until report is run is shown for a property, you must enter the value when you generate the report.
For ALT module:
ALT Data Set
Provides for selecting the data set on which to report from all ALT data sets in the System file. To change the data set selection, you click the browse button to the right of this field. In the window that opens, you click the desired data set and then the green checkmark.
For Event Tree, Markov, and RBD modules:
Print all diagrams
When selected, reports are generated for all diagrams in the System file.
Print selected diagram
When selected, a report is generated only for the selected diagram, which you select when you generate the report.
*
When you select Print selected diagram for an RBD report, the Print linked diagram property becomes available. This property, which is shown only for RBD diagrams, indicates whether to also print diagrams that are linked to the selected diagram.
For FMEA module:
FMEA
Provides for selecting the FMEA on which to report from all FMEAs in the System file. To change the FMEA selection, you click the browse button to the right of this field. In the window that opens, you click the desired FMEA and then the green checkmark.
For FTA module:
Print all top gates
When selected, reports are generated for all top gates (fault trees) in the System file.
Print selected gate
When selected, a report is generated only for the top gate that you select in the field that becomes available for this purpose. When you click the browse button for this field, a window opens for selecting the top gate on which to report. You click the top gate for the report and then click the green checkmark.
For FRACAS, Maintainability, and Prediction modules:
Configuration
Provides for selecting the system tree configuration on which to report from all configurations in the System file. You are prompted for this parameter value during report generation only if the Configurations table is turned on in the Project properties.
For Weibull module:
Weibull Data Set
Provides for selecting the data set on which to report from all the Weibull data sets in the System file. To change the data set selection, you click the browse button to the right of this field. In the window that opens, you click the desired data set and then the green checkmark.
For all modules:
Apply this selection to all reports
Indicates if record selection parameters specified for the report are to be used for all reports in the Report Binder file. When this checkbox is selected (default), you are prompted for parameter values only once at run time because the values specified are used for all reports in the Report Binder file. When this checkbox is cleared, you are prompted for parameter values for each report in the Report Binder file.
For ALT, FMEA, FRACAS, Maintainability, Prediction, and Weibull modules
Print current branch
When selected, only the items in the current branch of the system tree are included in the report.
For Event Tree module
Automatically page diagrams
Indicates whether to insert page breaks when diagrams are included in the report. These page breaks are in addition to any that you have inserted in the diagram. When this checkbox is selected (default), additional page breaks are inserted as needed. When it is cleared, no additional page breaks are inserted. While the automatic page breaks are not visible in the diagram, they are visible in a preview of the report.
Filter
This heading and its properties are shown only when applying a filter to a report is possible. The type of report selected determines the filters available for selection. For example, if a FRACAS report is selected, only valid FRACAS filters are available.
Report design filter
This display-only property indicates the filter specified in the in the report properties for the Report Design file. -- No Filter -- is shown if no filter is specified.
Override report filter
Provides for applying a different filter to the report from all those available for this report type. Personal filters are available for selection only from the desktop application. If a report uses a personal filter from a different user, the desktop application ignores this filter if the same filter is not found in your personal Filter file.
Filter conditions
When a filter is applied, the criteria for the filter are shown in this area. When a filter has one or more user-defined parameters, a button for copying the parameter values you supply is available.
Copy these parameters to other filters
Provides for copying the parameters specified for the filter to all other filters in the Report Binder. This button is shown only if the filter has one or more user-defined parameters. When you click it, the selected value for each parameter is copied to all other filters that require a parameter for the same table and data field.
Diagram
This heading and its properties appear only for a fault tree diagram.
Print option
Specifies what pages to print. Choices are:
Print All Pages — When selected (default), all pages are printed.
Print from Current Page Down — When selected, the current page and all subsequent pages are printed.
Print only Current Page — When selected, only the current page is printed.
Paging option
Specifies paging and branch pruning behavior. In the FTA module, paging is accomplished by inserting transfer gates to top gates on new pages. The choice you make for this property controls whether additional transfer gates are inserted when reports are generated. Choices are:
Do Not Automatically Page Reports — When selected, additional transfer gates are not inserted in the report. It uses only the page breaks that you have specified by inserting transfer gates.
Automatically Page Reports (Minimizing Pages) — When selected (default), the report layout and images are scaled to minimize the pages required for printing.
Automatically Page Reports (Avoid Downscaling) — When selected, the tree branches are aggressively pruned to minimize downscaling. However, there is no compensation for gates with a large number of direct inputs, which allows pages with such gates to scale.
While the automatic page breaks are not visible in the diagram, they are visible in a preview of the report.
Use stacking
For gates with multiple events, this checkbox indicates how to show these event on a report that is not automatically paged. When this checkbox is cleared (default), events are shown horizontally. When this checkbox is selected, events are shown vertically stacked in pairs.
Scaling factor
Specifies the maximum scaling factor to use. The default is 1 so that objects are not scaled to sizes larger than their original sizes in the diagram. If you enter a 4 in this field, objects are scaled up to four times their original sizes to fill the page.
