Importing System Tree Items
Once a System file has been created, you can import assembly, part, and configuration information from a source file into tables for the following modules: FMEA, FRACAS, and Prediction.
• When only one item exists in the System Tree Items table, which is the case in a newly created System file, the first item in the source file replaces the default top-level item. All other items in the source file are then imported as children to this top-level item in the order in which they appear in the source file.
• When more than one item exists in the System Tree Items table, all items in the source file are appended to the end of the table.
To support the importing of both assemblies and parts in the same import, the source file must contain a field that designates which items are parts. This field must contain a value of 1 (true) for all part records and a value of 0 (false) for all assembly records. On the Select Field Assignments page in the Import Wizard, this field is then mapped to Part? in the System Tree Items table.
To specify hierarchical levels for parent/child relationships, the source file must contain a field in which a level value is specified. This can be a parent ID field or a hierarchical level field. If a hierarchical level field is used, on the Select Field Assignments page in the Import Wizard, this field must then be mapped to Level in the System Tree Items table.
To import data for both parts and assemblies, data can be combined in a single text-based file or in a single worksheet or table in a Microsoft Excel or Access file. The data can also be in two separate tables or worksheets in the same file.
1. To import assemblies and parts, perform the steps described in Starting the Import Wizard and Beginning the Import, selecting Prediction on the Select Product Modules page and proceeding until you arrive at the Select Data Type page.
2. When the Select Type Data Type page appears, select the type of prediction data to import, referring to the following table for descriptions.. For tables, the plural name that is assigned in the Table Settings pane in the Project Properties window is used. For more information, see Specifying Table Settings.

Description
System Tree Items
This area provides options for importing data into the System Tree Items table.
Parts only
When selected, only the part records in the source file are imported. Selecting this option is like selecting Prediction Parts as the table type. If Part Library searching is turned on, data for a part number match is retrieve when part records are imported.
Assemblies only
When selected, only assembly records in the source file are imported. Selecting this option is like selecting Prediction Assemblies as the table type.
System Tree Items only
When selected, records are imported into the System Tree Items table type. Selecting this option is like selecting System Tree Items as the table type. It provides for importing the System Tree structure with no specific part data.
System Tree Items and Parts
When selected, records are imported into the System Tree Items table and Parts Table. This option provides for importing the System Tree structure and specific part data in a single import. This requires two field mapping passes. In the first pass, the Assign System Tree Fields appears. On this page, you map System Tree structure data, such as Name, Part?, Level, and Description. In the second pass, the Assign Prediction Parts Fields page appears. On this page, you map specific part data, such as Part Number, Part? Reference Designator, Quantity, and Description. The source file must have a field to map to Part? in which assemblies are indicated by 0 values and parts by 1 values. If Part Library searching is turned on, data for a matching part number is retrieved when importing the part records. For more information, see Part Number Searches.
Configurations
This area provides options for importing configuration data. It is present only when the Configurations table is shown in the System file. For more information, see Configurations Table.
Configurations
When selected, records are imported into the Configurations table. Selecting this option is like selecting Configurations as the table type.
System Tree Item Configurations
When selected, records are imported into the System Tree Item Configurations table.
3. Once you have completed the Select Data Type page, click Next.
◦ If System Tree Item Configurations is selected, the Add Configurations page appears so that you can indicate if new configurations are to be added during the import. Once you click Next, the Select Field Assignments page appears. For this type of import, you must import data for the following fields: Configuration, System Tree item, and Tree Item Enabled.
◦ If any other option is selected and records do already exist in the table, the Import Type page appears. Go to step 4.
◦ If any other option is selected and no records exist in the table, the Select Field Assignments page typically appears. However, if you are importing both assemblies and parts into the System Tree Items table, two separate pages appear for selecting field assignments: Assign System Tree Item Fields and Assign Prediction Parts Fields. These pages are all completed in the same way. Go to step 5.
4. If the Select Import Type page appears, select an option, referring to the following table for option descriptions.

Description
I want to add records
When selected (default), the records in the source file are added to the table as new records. If the identifier fields for parent tables are not included in the source file or if they are missing for some of the records, you are prompted to select the identifiers that are necessary during the import.
I want to update records
When selected, the records in the source file are to update existing records in the table. The unique identifier field for the table into which the records are imported must be included in the source file so that matching records can be identified. Allow new records to be added during update becomes available so that you can indicate whether you want to adds new records when no matches to existing records are found.
5. On the one or more pages for selecting field assignments, map the fields to import. For more information, go to step 4 in Completing the Import.
6. When you finish, click Next. The Select Part Import Options page appears if you are importing both part numbers and alternate part numbers. Go to step 7. Otherwise, the Save Template page appears. Go to step 7.
7. If the Select Part Import Options page appears, indicate whether you want to search for the alternate part number and click Next. The Save Template page appears.
8. Complete the Save Template page and all subsequent wizard pages. For more information, go to step 9 in Completing the Import.
