General Properties
When General is the page selected in the Graph Properties window, you can set basic properties that dictate what the graph looks like. A preview for the selected chart type is shown on the right side of this page. Each time that you make a change, this preview is updated. The following table describes the properties that appear on the General page.
Property
Description
Frame text
The label to show in the title bar that appears at the top of the graph. Your selection for Theme determines the color of the frame in which the graph is shown as well as the colors for this bar and its text.
Chart type
The kind of graph to use for plotting the data. You can always change the type to any supported area, bar, line, marker, or pie/donut chart.
Theme
The color scheme for the graph. The following descriptions assume that Standard is selected for Variant:
Arctic White — When selected (default), the frame color is white, the title bar color is light gray, and the label text color is black.
Black Ice — When selected, the frame color is black, the title bar color is even deeper black, and label text color is white.
Glass — When selected, the frame color is dark gray, the title bar color is black, and the label text color is white.
Variant
Indicates whether to alter the theme. Choices are Standard and Accent.
When Standard is selected (default), the regular theme is applied.
When Accent is selected, the colors used for the theme are lightened.
The following theme descriptions assume that Accent is selected:
Arctic White — When selected, the frame color is white, the title bar color is white, and the label text color is black.
Black Ice — When selected, the frame color is light gray, the title bar color is gray, and the label text color is black.
Glass — When selected, the frame color is gray, the title bar color is light gray, and the label text color is black.
Composition
Specifies how to display data for a category or sequence in a bar graph when multiple data series are present. Choices are:
Side by Side — When selected (default), the bars for each data series are side by side.
Stacked — When selected, the bars for each data series are piled one on top of another to show how the total entity is divided into parts.
Stacked % — When selected, the bars for each data series are piled one on top of another. However, the total extension of each bar completely covers the quantitative axis to represent 100 percent. This type of graph displays the composition breakdown, allowing you to compare the percentage that each value contributes to the total across categories.
Palette
The colors for the data points in the series. While Vibrant A is the default, you can select from more than a dozen palettes.
Use different bar colors
Indicates if data points for a bar graph are to use different colors. If more than one data series is present, this checkbox is unavailable.
When selected, bars are consecutively assigned the colors in the selected palette.
When cleared, bars are all assigned the first color in the selected palette.
