Display Fields
Display fields control how table records are organized and selected in the System file. The control for selecting a record uses the display field. Except for the FMEA Tree Items table and the System Tree Items table, the display field for a table defaults to its Identifier. For example, for the FRACAS Incidents table, the display field is Incident Identifier. For each subtable, the display field is Identifier, which is the identifier for the parent table.
For the FMEA Tree Items table, the default display field is System Tree Identifier. For the System Tree Items table, two display fields are available in the window for specifying table settings. The following table describes these two options. For defaults for all display fields, see Table Settings (Project).
Option
Default Display Field
Description
Primary display field
Part Number
This display field is used for selecting an assembly or part in the System Tree Items table or one of its subtables. By default, Part Number is used. However, if no part number is entered, the value for the secondary display field is used.
Secondary display field
Name
This display field is used for selecting an assembly or part in the System Tree Items table if no value is entered for the primary display field. By default, Name is used.
While you can select a different display field for any table or subtable, to achieve the most benefits and greatest efficiencies, the field that you select should have unique values. Choices available for the display field include all text fields in the table. Memo fields are not included.

In the System file properties, you can change the format for identifiers under the Identifiers heading. For more information, see Identifiers System File Properties.
