Repair Resource Optimizations
Repair resources refer to the maintenance technicians and teams who perform maintenance. For maintenance to be performed, repair resources must be available. You define the finite number of repair resources available to you in the Project’s RBD Repair Resources file. For example, if you define three electricians in this file, no more than three electricians can be performing maintenance at any given point in time. For more information, see RBD Repair Resources Files.
On the Corrective page in a block’s Calculation Properties window, you indicate the repair resource that is to perform corrective maintenance. Additionally, on the Maintenance page in a block’s Calculation Properties window, you insert maintenance tasks. For more information, see Block Calculation Properties.
If you use RBD Maintenance Library files, you can easily insert the tasks stored in them into the calculation properties for any block by entering their unique library identifiers. For more information, see RBD Maintenance Library Files.
In the Maintenance Properties window for each task, you specify the repair resource that is to perform the task. To view and modify the Maintenance Properties window for a task, on the Maintenance page in the block’s Calculation Properties window, you select the task in the Maintenance table and then click Edit Task beneath this table. For more information, see Maintenance Properties.
When a repair resource is not assigned to a corrective maintenance or to a maintenance task for the block, it is assumed that its performance does not require waiting for the arrival or availability of a repair resource. In this case, it is assumed that there are an infinite number of repair resources available to perform the maintenance and that the cost of using these resources is zero.
Because having too few or too many repair resources on hand can be costly, it is important that maintenance technicians and team staffing be carefully considered. You can optimize repair resources based on various constraints such as desired capacity or availability. For more information, see Specifying Repair Resource Optimization Parameters.
