Downtime Page
In the Calculate window, the RBD > Downtime page specifies the fixed and variable costs that are associated with the system when the required capacity level is not met. You specify the required capacity on the RBD > General page. For more information, see Capacity Calculations.
The capacity is the output that the system is required to meet to be considered operating. If the capacity falls below this number, the system is considered failed even though it may still be working physically. This causes the costs assigned on this page to be incurred appropriately.
The following table describes the properties on the Downtime page.
Property
Description
Fixed cost per system failure
The fixed costs associated with a system failure. For repairable systems, these costs are applicable each time a failure of the system occurs.
Downtime dependent costs for the system
The properties under this heading provide for specifying the costs per hour for not meeting the required capacity.
Fixed cost for not meeting required capacity
The fixed costs per hour for not meeting the required capacity.
Cost per percentage of capacity below 100%
The cost per hour incurred for each percentage of capacity below 100% capacity. For example, if you enter a value of 20, and the system is running at 95% capacity, a cost of 100 is incurred per hour. This is because the system is running at 5 percentage points below 100% capacity; thus, the cost is 5 * 20 or 100.
Cost per percentage of capacity below requirement
The additional cost per hour incurred for each percentage of capacity below the required capacity. For example, if you enter a value of 50, and the system is running at 85% when the required capacity is 90%, a cost of 250 is incurred per hour. This is because the system is running at 5 percentage points below the required capacity; thus, the cost is 5 * 50 or 250.
