Prediction FIDES Application Factor File Overview
All FIDES models use a Pi application factor in their reliability calculations. Because the Pi application factor is calculated per mission phase, in a Prediction FIDES Application Factor file, you must answer one set of questions for each phase that has been inserted in the Project’s FIDES Mission Profile file. For more information, see Prediction FIDES Mission Profile Files.
You can enable a Prediction FIDES Application Factor file at either the assembly or part level. For an assembly, you select the file to use in its Calculation Data pane. For a part, you select the file to use in its Prediction Data pane.
If you select a Prediction FIDES Application Factor file for the top-most assembly, it is inherited by all lower-level assemblies and parts. You then need only to specify override selections for lower-level items.
If a Prediction FIDES Application Factor file is not inherited or specified for an assembly or part, a default value of 3.2 is used as the Pi application factor for all phases.
The following table describes the two panes in the Prediction FIDES Application Factor file.
Pane
Description
Application Phases
Displays the phases that are inserted in the Project’s Prediction FIDES Mission Profile file. For more information, see Application Phases Pane.
Application Questions
Displays a table with questions that you are to answer for the phase currently selected in the Application Phases pane. As you indicate levels in the Answer column, in the Application Phases pane, the result calculated for the display-only Pi Application for this phase is updated. For more information, see Application Questions Pane.
