A maintainability prediction for a repairable item begins with a list of the maintenance tasks to perform if that item fails. A task is a single step taken in the repair of the failed item. A task group is a collection of tasks that are taken in the repair of the failed item.

The lists of tasks and tasks groups to use in maintainability predictions are stored in Maintainability Task Library files. Because a Maintainability Task Library file is the basis for maintainability calculations, it is the only type of Maintainability support file that is required. When entering maintainability data for a repairable item, you can choose to select repair tasks from the tasks and task groups stored in enabled Maintainability Task Library files. There must be at least one Maintainability Task Library file in the Project or one enabled in the Common Library to perform maintainability predictions. You specify the order in which enabled library files are searched.

A Maintainability Task Library file with the standard maintenance tasks and repair times in MIL-HDBK-472 (MIL-HDBK-472 Tasks) is supplied in the Supplied folder on the Windchill Risk and Reliability application server. For more information, see Supplied Files. You can copy this file into your Project or the Common Library Project to base your maintainability prediction on this Maintainability Task Library file. You can customize this file or create a custom Maintainability Task Library file that defines only the tasks and task groups relevant to the maintenance of your system.

The data shown in the Maintainability Task Library file depends on whether the Tasks tab or Task Groups tab is selected in the navigation pane on the left.
