Inserting a System File Fault Tree or Branch into an FTA Diagram Library File
In a System file, when a top gate for a tree or a gate for a branch is selected in the FTA Table, you can use the Insert Selection into Library command to insert it into an FTA Diagram Library file. Using this insertion method is the same as copying a record in the FTA Table in one file and pasting it into the FTA Table in another file.
*
The source file and target file must have the same FTA calculation type. If no existing FTA Diagram Library file has the same calculation type as the active System file, one is created and then your selection is inserted into it. Any transfer gates in the original tree or branch are not copied into the library file.
1. In the FTA Table, select either the top gate to copy the entire tree or the gate for a branch to copy only this branch.
2. Select FTA > Insert Selection into Library. The Paste in Progress window opens as your selection is inserted into the FTA Diagram Library file as a library diagram.
If no FTA Diagram Library file is enabled in the Project, one is created in the Project and then your selection is inserted into it.
If one FTA Diagram Library file is enabled, your selection is inserted into this file.
If multiple FTA Diagram Library files are enabled, your selection is inserted into the first one in the search order for which you have write permissions. For information about setting the search order, see Setting the Search Order for System and Library Files.
*
To insert your selection into other than the first library file in the search order, you must copy the top gate for the tree or the gate in the branch in the FTA Table in the System file and then paste it into the FTA Table in the desired FTA Diagram Library file.
The descriptions assigned to gates and events in the System file are copied into the new records created in the library file. For information about what happens if data links or repeated events are present, see Handling of Links and Repeated Events for Diagram Library Files.
Once the paste process finishes, a window opens, indicating the diagram is inserted. Both the identifier assigned to the new library diagram and the FTA Diagram Library file in which it is inserted are shown.
3. Click OK.
You can open the FTA Diagram Library file that is specified and use the to panes in it in basically the same manner as the two FTA panes in the System file. Differences between the panes in this support file and the System file are noted in FTA Diagram Library File Overview.
*
If the Library Browse window is open, you can use the standard Windows drag-and-drop technique to insert a System file fault tree or branch into an FTA Diagram Library file. In the FTA Table in the System file, click the row with the top gate for the branch and hold down the mouse button while dragging the mouse cursor over to the Library Browse window. A diagram icon is attached to the mouse cursor. Release the mouse button to paste the diagram into the first FTA Diagram Library file in the search order. If no such files exist, one is created.
