Inserting a System File Event into an FTA Event Library File
When a fault tree event is selected in the System file, you can use the Insert Selection into Library command to insert it into an FTA Event Library file. Using this insertion method is the same as copying an event in one file and pasting it in another file.
*
The source file and target file must have the same FTA calculation type. If no existing FTA Event Library file has the same calculation type as this System file, one is created your selection is then inserted into it.
1. In the System file, select the event in either the FTA Table or in the diagram.
2. Select FTA > Insert Selection into Library. The Paste in Progress window opens, indicated that the selected event is being inserted into the FTA Event Library file.
If no FTA Event Library file is enabled in the Project, one is created in the Project and then the event is inserted into it.
If one FTA Event Library file is enabled, the event is inserted into this file.
If multiple FTA Event Library files are enabled, the event is inserted into the first one in the search order for which you have write permissions. For information about setting the search order, see Setting the Search Order for System and Library Files.
*
To insert your selection into other than the first library file in the search order, you would have to copy the event in the FTA Table in the System file and then paste it into the Event Table in the desired FTA Event Library file.
The properties assigned to the System file event are copied into the record for the new library event. If the System file event has a data link to an item in another module, the link is removed and its parameter definition is set to User defined. If the System file event is a repeated event, its designation as a repeated event is removed.
Once the paste process finishes, a window opens, indicating that the event is inserted. Both the identifier assigned to the new library event and the FTA Event Library file in which it is inserted are shown.
3. Click OK.
You can open the FTA Event Library file that is specified and use the panes in it in basically the same manner as the FTA panes in the System file. Differences between the panes in this support file and the System file are noted in FTA Event Library Files.
*
You can use the standard Windows drag-and-drop technique to insert a System file event into an FTA Event Library file. In the FTA Table in the System file, click the row with the event and hold down the mouse button while dragging the mouse cursor over to the Library Browse window. An event icon is attached to the mouse cursor. Release the mouse button to paste the event into the first FTA Event Library file in the search order. If no such files exist, one is created.
