Generating an Advanced FRACAS Graph
When Advanced graph (minimal wizard interface) is selected on the FRACAS Graph Type page of the Graph Wizard, you can create an advanced graph. Because of the many different ways you can generate an advanced FRACAS graph, the Graph Wizard interface is minimal.
1. Start the Graph Wizard and complete the first few pages as described in Generating a FRACAS Graph.
2. On the FRACAS Graph Type page, select Advanced graph (minimal wizard interface) and click Next. The Advanced Graph Data Setup page appears.
3. Complete the Advanced Graph Data Setup page.
In the following table, options are described in an order intended to help you to complete this page successfully.
Option
Description
Table type
The table containing the data field to graph. Supported table types depend on the tables turned on in the Table Settings pane in the Project Properties window. For more information, see Table Settings (Project).
Data field
The data fields that can be plotted on the graph. Choices depend on the selection for the next option. When a field in this list is selected, you can click Add or Remove for the Group by list or Show Values list. This adds or remove the field from this secondary list.
Show all data fields
Indicates the fields to display in the Data field list. When this checkbox is cleared (default), only the fields that are inserted in the table or forms for the selected table type are shown. When it is selected, all fields that can possibly be inserted in the table or forms for the selected table type are shown.
Data filter
The filter that you want to apply to the queried data. By default, -- No Filter -- is selected to indicate that no filter is applied. You can select a filter from all those associated with the table type for the lowest level field selected in the Group by and Show values lists.
Graph data
The type of graph that you want to generate. Choices are:
For all records. When selected, the graph plots one point for each series (or field in the Show values list). In this case, the Group by list and the Add and Remove buttons for this list are unavailable.
For each record. When selected, the graph plots one point for each series (or field in the Show values list) for every record that is returned from the query. In this case, you can add one field to the Group by list or leave it empty. When it contains one field, this field is used for the x-axis label. When it is empty, the display field for the table is used for the x-axis label.
Group By. When selected (default), the graph plots grouped data. In this case, you must add one field and can add as many as two fields to the Group by list. The Graph Wizard then groups the records returned from the query by the one or more fields in the Group by list. To perform further filtering or grouping on these fields, the Edit button for the Group by list is available.
If you selected Group by and have added two fields to the Group by list, select only one field in the Show values list. Otherwise, if more than one field is added to the Show values list, the following error message is shown:This graph type only supports one ‘Show values’ field when two ‘Group by’ fields have been chosen.
If you still want to use this type of graph, you can go back to the previous page and change the list of ‘Show values’ fields.
Buttons for Group by
When clicked, the field selected in the Data field list is added to the Group by list. As indicated earlier, the graph type selected for Graph data determines the number of fields to add. Because you can add a field to the Group by list only once, if you select a field in the Data field list that is already in the list, this button is unavailable.
When clicked, the field selected in the Group by list is removed from the list. If the list is empty, this button is unavailable.
When clicked, the Field Sort Order window opens so that you can configure properties for the field currently selected in the Group by list. This button is available only when Group by is the graph type selected for Graph data and a field is selected in the Group by list. You use the Field Sort Order window to configure the properties of the field currently selected in the list. For more information, see Field Sort Order Window.
Show values
The fields that you want to plot on the graph. Descriptions follow based on the choice made for the graph type selected for Graph data.
For all records. When selected, some type of mathematical function is performed on each field value. You select the function to perform in the Edit Summary window, which you open by clicking Edit for Show values.
For each record. When selected, the field values are plotted.
Group By. When selected, some type of mathematical function is performed on each field value. You select the function to perform in the Edit Summary window, which you open by clicking Edit for Show values. For more information, see Edit Summary Window.
Buttons for Show values
When clicked, the field selected in the Data field list is added to the Show values list. You can add the same field multiple times and then use the Edit Summary window to choose a different type of mathematical function to perform on each occurrence. You can add as many as 10 fields to this list. Once you have added 10 fields to the Show values list, this button is unavailable.
When clicked, the field selected in the Show values list is removed from the list. If the list is empty, this button is unavailable.
When clicked, the Edit Summary window opens so that you can choose the mathematical function to perform on the field. This button is available only when Group by is selected for Graph data and a field is selected in the Group by list. For more information, see Edit Summary Window.
4. When finished, click Next. The Graph Options page appears so that you can specify how the graph is to look. Certain types of graphs, such as Marker and Pie/Donut, are not available for advanced FRACAS graphs.
5. Complete the Graph Options page and the remaining pages to generate the graph. For more information, see Specifying Graph Options
If a graph cannot be generated, a window opens, indicating why. Generally this is because you have selected fields for either the filter or the graph from unrelated tables. For more information, see Unrelated Tables.
