Inserting a Cause
For each failure mode in the FMEA Worksheet table, cause data is either supplied at the mode level (default) or at a separate cause level, depending on the FMEA data structure. If a cause is a child of an effect, when you insert the effect, the initial cause for this effect is also inserted. However, you can insert any number of additional child causes for this effect.
1. In the FMEA Worksheet table, select the mode for which to insert an additional cause.
2. If the cause to add is to be the child of an effect, select the appropriate effect.
3. Insert the cause using one of the following methods:
Select Insert > Cause.
Right-click the item in the FMEA Worksheet table and select Insert Cause.
In the title bar of the FMEA Worksheet table, or on the Insert FMEA Items toolbar, click the button for inserting a cause.
The cause is inserted along with all child data levels specified by the Project’s FMEA Design file.
4. Complete the fields for the cause as well as the fields for any child data level.
Once cause level fields are completed, if effects are a child data level of a cause, you can insert additional effects. For more information, see Inserting an Effect.
When Multiple Actions is selected in the Project’s FMEA Design file, each mode can have multiple causes and multiple effects. Additionally, each cause can have multiple actions. When you insert the cause, the initial action for the cause is inserted. Once cause level fields and action level fields are completed, you can insert additional actions. For more information, see Inserting an Action.
