Failure Mode Searches
When you insert a part in the FMEA, all enabled FMEA Modes Library files are searched in the order specified for this file type in the Project properties. For more information, see Setting the Search Order for System and Library Files.
If a part match is found, the failure modes for the part definition are copied into the FMEA Worksheet table. If more than one part match is found, the data for the first match found is copied into the FMEA Worksheet table.
Searches for part matches are performed as described below.
An exact part classification/category/subcategory search is performed first.
If an exact part classification/category/subcategory match is not found, a classification/category/any subcategory search is performed.
If a part classification/category/any subcategory match is not found, a part classification/any category/any subcategory search is performed.
*
For an RDF 2000IEC part, the search for a part match occurs in the same manner. However, four levels are searched: part classification/category/subcategory/IEC 62380 Type.
When a part match is found, the following steps are taken for the part:
Any existing modes that have a source of Modes Library are deleted from the FMEA Worksheet table. Modes that have been manually inserted in this table are not deleted. Manually inserted modes have a source of User. For more information, see FMEA Worksheet Record Sources.
All of the modes for the part match are copied into the FMEA Worksheet table. A source of Modes Library is indicated for these modes. The text entered for Mode Code for the library mode is inserted for Mode Description for the new record. If the part has no item level record, an item record is inserted. Then, the modes under this new item are copied into the FMEA Worksheet table.
When copying and pasting parts, modes for all pasted items are copied using the same procedure as if the parts were newly inserted. When importing parts, modes for all imported parts are copied using the same procedure as if the parts were manually inserted. You can delete modes that are inserted in the FMEA Worksheet table from FMEA Modes Library files.
If you modify a FMEA Modes Library file, the modes in a component FMEA are not automatically updated. However, the Refresh All Modes command updates all modes in the FMEA and the Refresh Current Part Modes command updates modes for the active art. All modes with a source of Modes Library are deleted and new, updated modes are inserted using the standard mode searching procedure. For more information, see:
You can insert the Part Classification, Category, Subcategory, and IEC 62380 Type fields in the following tables: System Tree Items, Parts Table, and FMEA Tree Items. When these fields are inserted in the FMEA Tree Items table, you can use them to view and modify the selections that determine the failure modes that are copied into the FMEA Worksheet table for parts from enabled FMEA Modes Library files. You can also insert these fields on forms and reports and in child tables. However, these fields are read-only in child tables.
