Starting the Import Wizard and Beginning the Import
The file into which to import data must already exist. The following procedure provides the basic steps for using the Import Wizard to import data. When you are importing data into a System file table, clicking this table prior to starting the Import Wizard makes it the default for the import.
1. Select Tools > Import Wizard. The Import Wizard starts and displays the Load Template page. The option for performing a custom import is the default.

Description
Perform a custom import
When selected (default), information about the import to perform must be entered on pages of the Import Wizard. This option is selected when the information required for the import is not already saved in an Import/Export Template file.
Load an existing template
When selected, the Import/Export Template file that contains the settings required for the export can be selected in the window that opens. If you need to change your file selection, you can use the browse button for the field below to open this window again. Until an Import/Export Template file is selected, a < Select file...> label appears in the field for file selection. You can select from all enabled Graph Template files.
2. On the Load Template page, select Perform a custom import and click Next. The Select Product Module page or Select Source File page appears. If the Select Product Module page appears, go to step 3. If the Select Source File page appears, go to step 4.
The Select Product Module page appears if the System file is open and multiple modules are in use in the current session. The default module depends on the System file pane that was active when the Import Wizard was started.
3. If the Select Product Module page appears, select the appropriate module and click Next. The Select Source File page appears.
4. Click the browse button for Source file name to open the Open window. This window displays all files of the type selected for Files of type. The default is Microsoft Excel or the last file type selected. However, you can select from any of the supported file types. Choices are:
Text Files
Microsoft Access
Microsoft Excel
XML Files
All Files
The default location is the My Windchill Risk and Reliability Files folder for the current installation. This folder is in your local Documents folder. You can use the options in the Open window to navigate to and select the source file.
5. Once the source file is selected, click Open. The Open window closes, and the Select Source File page displays the selected file for Source File name.
6. Click Next. While no special pages appear for the import of XML files, special pages do often appear for specifying the formatting of other types of source files. The following topics explain how to complete the pages for supplying formatting information for different source file types:
Once the formatting information for the source file has been supplied, the Table Type page appears. For information about completing it and subsequent pages, see Completing the Import.
