Specifying Table Settings
The Project Properties pane displays the name of the Project and file headings in bold type. When you select the Project, the Table Settings pane displays properties for all tables and subtables that you can turn on and off in the Project’s System files. Additionally, you can assign custom table names and display fields. Any custom singular or plural name that you assign a table are used not only for this table but also in command names and window names that reference this table. For more information, including default table settings, see Table Settings (Project).
1. If the Project is not open in the Project Properties window, then open it. For more information, see Opening a Project in the Project Properties Window.
2. In the Project Properties pane, select the Project.
3. In the Table Settings pane, if expanding a collapsed heading is necessary, click the plus sign to its left.
4. To change the settings for a table or subtable, click its Setting column. A browse button becomes available.
5. Click the browse button. A window opens for specifying table settings.
6. Set the desired properties, referring to the following table for descriptions.
Properties
Description
Table
Indicates whether to turn the table on or off in the System file. Choices are:
Off — When selected (default), the table is not shown. When a table is turned off, options for this table are unavailable in the System file.
On — When selected, the table is shown. If desired, you can supply custom names to use for singular and plural references to this table.
On (No Tabs) — When selected, the table is included in the System file, but it is not shown. This option is available only for a subtable so that it can be embedded on a form. For more information, see Embedded Tables on Forms.
Singular name
The name to use for the table when a singular reference is needed. The default is typically a singular form of the full table name. For example, for the FRACAS Incidents table, the default is FRACAS Incident.
For subtables, the defaults for the singular and plural names are the same. The singular name that you assign cannot be the same as any other table’s singular name or the default singular name. You cannot use the following characters in table names:
\ / : * ? ” < > | ; ‘ &
*
Windchill Risk and Reliability uses the singular names and plural names that are saved in the Table Settings pane everywhere where singular and plural references to tables are made. This includes all window names, command names, choice lists, and descriptive text. Defaults for singular and plural names are listed in Table Settings (Project). If you assign a custom name and later want to restore the default name, you would clear the name field and click the green checkmark.
Plural name
The name to use for the table when a plural reference is needed. The default is typically the full table name. However, two exceptions exist:
For the FMEA Table, the plural name is FMEA Table, and the singular name is FMEA.
For the FMEA Worksheet table, both the plural and singular names are FMEA Worksheet.
Display field
The field that controls how records in the table are organized and selected in the System file. This option is available for all tables but the FMEA Worksheet. For more information, see Display Fields.
7. Once you finish, click the green checkmark to save your changes. If you click the red X instead, your changes are discarded.
8. If a System file is open, you must close and re-open it to make any newly added tables visible.
