Singular Support and Library Files
The files used to set up or supplement a Project are classified as either singular support or library files. A singular support file provides information that is used by all System files in the Project. As a result, only one occurrence of each type of singular support file can exist in the Project. For example, the Data Definition file specifies the prompts and lists that all System files in the Project are to use. If a different set of prompts and lists are needed for a System file, a system administrator must create another Project.
If you attempt to create a second occurrence of a singular support file, A confirmation window opens. This window indicates that if you click Yes to continue, the existing version of this file is backed up before a new one is created. All singular support files are automatically enabled in the Project for use by all System files in the Project.
A library file stores information to insert in a System file when certain criteria are met. If you have the necessary permissions, you can create any number of library files in a Project. All library files in the Project are automatically enabled for use by all of its System files. You specify the order in which to search library files in the Search order pane in the Project Properties window. For more information, see File Search Order Pane. To use the same library files with multiple Projects, you either create them in or move them to the Common Library. For more information, see Common Library.
