Report and Form Designers User Options
The following table describes the user options that appear under Report and Form Designers in the Options window. These options allow you to customize various settings for Report Design and Form Design files, which are described in Report Design Files and Form Design File Overview.

Create one object at a time
Indicates object insertion behavior for lines and boxes in Report and Form Design files. When this checkbox is selected (default), after you insert a line or box, you return to select mode. When this checkbox is cleared, after you insert a line or box, you remain in insert mode, which means that you can insert additional lines or boxes with a click of the left mouse button. To exit this mode and return to select mode, you either click the right mouse button or press Esc.
Form grid space height
The height that the Form Designer is to use when displaying dotted grid lines on the form to aid in the placement of controls. The default is 7.

The units for this option and the next are dialog units, which are independent of the font currently selected for the form. For example, if you change the font from Tahoma to Arial, the size of the form itself changes. This is true even if you do not change the point size.
Form grid space width
The width that the Form Designer is to use when displaying dotted grid lines in a Form Design file to aid in the placement controls. The default is 7.
Grid spacing
The spacing that the Report Designer is to use between grid lines in a Report Design file to aid in the placement of report objects. The units are inches, regardless of the measurement system selected. Choices are 1/32 in, 1/16 in, 1/8 in, 1/4 in, and 1/2 in. The default is 1/16 in.
Grid type
The type of grid shown in the Report Designer. Choices are Dots and Lines. The default is Lines.
Measurement system
Specifies the measurement unit for when rulers are shown in the Report Designer. Choices are:
English — When selected (default), the measurement is in inches.
Metric — When selected, the measurement is in centimeters.
Show data field names
Indicates whether field names or representative data samples are shown for data fields in the Report Designer. When this checkbox is selected (default), field names (prompts) are shown. When it is cleared, representative data samples are shown. In this mode, you can place the mouse cursor over a data field to view the field name as a tooltip.
Show grid
Indicates whether to show or hide the grid in an open Form Design or Report Design file. When this checkbox is cleared (default), the grid is hidden.
Show rulers
Indicates whether to show rulers in an open Report Design file. When this checkbox is selected (default), rulers are shown. Measurement system determines whether units are English (inches) or Metric (centimeters).
Snap to grid
Indicates whether to align objects in Report and Form Design files with the grid as you insert or move objects. When this checkbox is selected (default), objects are aligned to the grid. When it is cleared, objects remain exactly where you place them.
Use Form Design Wizard
Indicates whether the Form Design Wizard starts when you create a new or open an empty Form Design file. When this checkbox is selected (default), the Form Design Wizard starts. When it is cleared, a blank form appears when you create a new or open an empty Form Design file.
