List Library File Overview
Attaching lists to text-based data fields ensures data consistency. The
Master List Library file is a read-only file. It is populated with commonly used lists, some of which are attached to text fields by default. For example, the
Maintenance Levels list provides the choices that are available for repair level definitions in the Maintainability module. To open this file, see
Viewing the Lists in the Master List Library File. Because the
Master List Library file is read-only, in the following figure, no options are unavailable.
The
List Library files that you create store custom lists. You create
List Library files in the same way as any other file. Because the
List Library file is a Library file, multiple occurrences of this file type can exist in the Project. You can also create them in or move them to the
Common Library. For more information, see
Common Library.

In the Supplied folder on the application server, subfolders exist for each supported language. In the folder for your language, a Team List Library file contains dozens of additional lists. For example, in the En folder for an English installation, the file named Legacy Windchill Risk and Reliability Lists.RLI contains these lists. If desired, you can copy this file into a Project to overwrite its existing Project Filter file. For more information, see Copying Files from Another Project into the Project Open in the Project Properties Window.

If a list in a
List Library file has the same code as a list in the
Master List Library file, the custom list overrides the list in the
Master List Library file. You can attach the lists in all enabled
List Library files to text-based data fields in the
Data Definition file. For more information, see
Data Definition Files.
If you do not create a List Library file but type a new item directly in a text-based field that has a list attached, a List Library file is created in the Project.
