Creating a Revision of an Existing File
From the Project Navigator, you can create a revision of an existing file when you are in the file selection or file open state. For more information, see Project Navigator States. In the file open state, you cannot create a revision of a file that is currently open. If you attempt to do this, a window opens, indicating that you must close the file before you can attempt to create a revision of it.
While the capability to create a revision is primarily intended for System files, you can create revisions of any files other than singular support, Graph Template, Report Binder, and Report Design files. When you perform this procedure, Windchill Risk and Reliability suggests the revision name to assign to the file. It also always marks the original file as read-only. If necessary, a system administrator can make the data in the original file available again.
1. In the appropriate state of the Project Navigator, right-click the file and select Create Revision. The Create File Revision window opens.
For Original name, the name of the currently selected file is shown as display-only.
For Revision name, a suggested name for the file to create is shown. The default is the name of the currently selected file followed by (Revision X), where X is increased by a value of 1 each time a revision of this file is created. If you want to assign the revision file a different name, you can do so.
2. Once the desired revision is specified, click OK. The Copying Files window opens as a copy of the original file is made. After it closes, another window opens to indicate that the file has been created.
3. Click OK to close this window.
In the Project Navigator, both the original file and revision file are visible. If you open the original file, all of its data is unavailable as this file is now read-only. To make its data available again, a system administrator must clear Read-Only under General in the Project properties. For more information, see General Project Properties.
