Inserting an LDAP User
The LDAP Users area is available only if you have configured a connection to at least one LDAP server. You insert an LDAP user in this area using an Insert command.
1. If the LDAP Users area is not active, click the LDAP Users icon in the shortcut bar.
The Active Directories Users pane shows only the LDAP users that have already been inserted.
2. To open the Insert LDAP User window, in the LDAP Users pane, do one of the following:
Click the <Click here to insert a new record> command at the end of the list.
Right-click and select Insert User.
Select Insert > User .
The Insert LDAP User window is almost identical to the Insert LDAP Group window. For more information, see Insert LDAP Group and Insert LDAP User Windows.
3. For Name, enter the name of the user for which to search. This field supports the use of the * wildcard character.
4. In the LDAP directory server list, select the server to search. The default is < All >. When it is selected, all servers that you have configured are searched.
5. Select LDAP group and use its list to select the group search. The default is < All >. When it is selected, all groups on the configured directory servers are searched.
6. Click Search. If the search takes more than a second, a window opens, indicating the progress made.
To cancel the search, in this window, you click Stop. Another window opens for confirming that the search be cancelled. Confirming does not cancel the search request on the LDAP server. It stops the search from the Windchill Risk and Reliability end, causing it to ignore any results obtained from the search.
When the search finishes, results display in the table. The first column shows the names of the users found, and the second column shows the groups in which these users were found.
If different directory servers are searched, the LDAP name precedes the user name (ptc\susan smith). You can click Select All or Clear All to quickly select or clear all table rows. The users in all selected rows are added when you click Insert.
7. Select the rows for the users to insert and click Insert. You are returned to the LDAP Users area, where these users are inserted.
If any of these users are already inserted, another window opens, indicating which users were not added because they already existed. In this case, click OK to acknowledge this message.
In the LDAP Users area, the Users pane displays account information for the active LDAP user. You cannot modify information loaded from the LDAP server. However, you can indicate Can create Projects and Can delete Projects permissions. Additionally, in the Member of Groups list, you can select and clear checkboxes to assign the LDAP user to one or more of the Windchill Risk and Reliability groups inserted in the Groups area, just as you do in the User Information pane for a user who was inserted directly in the Users area. For more information, see User Information Pane.
In the LDAP Groups pane, the Member of groups list shows all LDAP groups to which the LDAP user is assigned on the LDAP server. The LDAP group does not have to be inserted in the LDAP Groups area for it to display in this list.
