Actions Common Among Objects
The following table describes the actions that are used frequently on Windchill objects. These actions are available from object information pages as well as the right-click actions menu available in tables throughout Windchill. Not all actions display for every user. Permissions, roles, and teams all affect action display. For more information, see Accessing Data.

Some actions affect the status of the object. For more information on status indicators, see Object Status.
Action
Description
Add to Baseline
Add the most recent version of the object to a baseline.
A baseline is a snapshot of an evolving collection of product data objects. You can search for an existing baseline or create a new baseline in which to include the object. For more information, see About Managed Baselines.
Add to Managed Collection
Add the object to a managed collection. For more information, see Managed Collections.
Add to My Notebook
Add the object to your notebook in the folder location you select. For more information, see Notebooks.
Add to Package
Add the object to a package. You can add to an existing package or create a new package containing the selected object. For more information, see Packages.
Add to Project
Shares or checks out a selected object to a project. Sharing allows an object that resides in a product or library to appear in the project with read-only access.
Checking out an object to a project reserves the object in the source context and creates a new object version in the project. The checked-out version can be edited in the project and then later checked back in to the product or library. For more information, see Exchanging Data Between Contexts.
Add to Workspace
Add the selected object to a specified workspace. For more information, see Workspace Page Functionality.
Check In
Check in the object that you have checked out. The checkin operation saves the modifications you have made to the object in the system and also iterates the object (for example, from A.1 to A.2). For more information, see Checking In an Object.
Check Out
Checks out the object to you, locking it to prevent modification by others. You can then undo the checkout or check in the modifications you have made to the object. For more information, see Checking Out an Object
Compare Information
Compares two or more objects or versions of an object. For more information, see Comparing Object or Version Information.
Copy
Places a copy of the selected object on the Windchill clipboard so that it can be pasted elsewhere as a new object or a reference. For more information, see About the Clipboard.
Delete
Remove the object and related objects from the database. For more information, see About Delete.
Delete Non-latest Iterations
Removes all but the most recent iteration of the current revision from the database.
Edit
Opens an edit window for the object, allowing you to modify certain attributes.
Edit Filters
Apply various filters to a structure or collection. For more information, see Editing Filters.
Export
Compress the content and metadata of the object into a JAR file to move the information to another site or portal. The JAR file resides on your local file system prior to being moved. For more information, see About Export and Import.
Export List to File
Export table information to the specified file format. The formats available vary depending on the table location. For more information, see Exporting Table Information to a File.
Filter Properties
View the filters currently applied to the structure or collection. For more information, see Viewing Current Filter Properties.
Edit Access Control
View the current permissions on the object for any user, group, or organization that you can access. If you have the required permissions, you can change the current ad hoc access control permissions that are in place for the object. For more information, see Access Table.
Edit Security Labels
View the current security label values set on the object. If you have the required permissions, you can change the security label values that are in place for the object. For more information, see Edit Security Labels — Collect Related Objects.
Move
Transfer all versions of a selected object and related objects to another context and folder location. For more information, see About Move.
New Change Notice
Create a new change notice. The change notice includes an implementation plan detailing the tasks required to make the change. For more information, see Creating a Change Notice.
New Change Request
Create a new change request. A change request details the impact of the proposed changes. For more information, see Creating a Change Request.
New Problem Report
Create a new problem report to document a problem or request a product enhancement. For more information, see Creating a Problem Report.
New Promotion Request
Create a new promotion request, subject to review and approval, to advance the object to another life cycle state. For more information, see Creating a Promotion Request.
New Variance
Create a new variance of the object.
A variance is defined into two categories: deviations and waivers. A deviation is a planned departure from the as-designed configuration before the object is built. A waiver is a written acceptance of nonconformance. For more information, see Creating a Variance.
Open in Creo View
Presents the default representation of the object in Creo View.
Reassign Life Cycle
Reassign the life cycle template or set the starting life cycle state for the object. For more information, see Reassigning Life Cycles.
Remove Share
Removes a shared object from a project folder, eliminating read access for all project team members. For more information, see Exchanging Data Between Contexts.
Rename
Reidentify an object with a new name, number, or organization identifier. The attributes and relationships that can be changed vary by object type. For more information, see Renaming an Object.
Reset Team
Allows users with appropriate permissions to reset the team template for that object. For more information, see Resetting a Team Template.
Revise
Creates a new revision of the object. For example, your object might be revised from A.4 to B.1, depending on the revision scheme at your site. For more information, see Revising an Object.
Route
Move an object through an automated process, such as a review or approval routing. The action is available in projects only. For more information, see Routing an Object.
Save As
Create a new object based on the current object. The attributes and relationships that can be carried forward to the new object vary by object type.
Send to PDM
Check in the current object and related objects from a project to a product or library. For more information, see Sending Objects to PDM.
Set State
Change the life cycle state of the object, for example, from In Work to Released. For more information, see Setting the State of an Object.
Subscribe
Receive automated notifications when certain events occur for an object, such as when the object is checked out and back in. For more information, see Creating a Subscription.
Undo Check Out
Releases your hold on the object, making it available for others to check out. Modifications you made to the object are discarded. For more information, see Undoing a Checkout.
Undo PDM Checkout
Reverses the PDM checkout operation and unlocks the original object in PDM. All iterations of the project-specific version are deleted. For more information, see Undoing a PDM Checkout.
Undo Reservation
When this action is enabled, it indicates that another user has the object reserved for modification. You can use this action to manually revoke their reservation and allow another user to modify the object.
A confirmation message appears with details about the user and the action they are performing.
*
This action is only available to site and organization administrators.
