Opening a Design Context in a CAD Tool
The Open In CAD Tool action enables you to create or update a design context from a part structure configuration context and open the associated CAD documents in your CAD application — all in a single operation.
The following conditions must be met prior to using the Open In CAD Tool action.
• The Open In CAD Tool action is only available when the Show New Design Context Action preference is set to Yes. The default value is No.
• This Open In CAD Tool action is only available from a Windchill browser embedded in the CAD application when an active/primary workspace has been defined. The action is unavailable in a standalone Windchill browser.
The behavior of the Open In CAD Tool action is also dependent on the preference Hide wizard when creating a Design Context from a Configuration Context. When this preference is set to No, you must enter the required information in the New Design Context or Update Design Context window.
For more information about how to create or update a design context, see
Creating a New Design Context from a Part Structure.
When the Hide wizard when creating a Design Context from a Configuration Context preference is set to Yes, the design context is generated or updated and the related CAD documents are opened in the CAD application automatically without user interaction provided that the following conditions are met.
• A connection to a primary workspace has been initiated from within the CAD application.
• A default template has been previously specified for the creation of the design context.
|
A default template is identified by selecting the Default button next to the Template Name field in the New Design Context window. This is usually done during the creation of a previous design context for a specific CAD application.
