Creating a Design Context from a Part Structure
In Windchill a design context can be created from a part structure configuration context by using filters that are specific to parts structures and parts, for example, using the Options Filters, that are relevant to a specific design task. You can create one design context for each version of a configuration context. Within a workspace, a design context can also be created from an initial CAD structure. • A design context can only be created from a configuration context that is filtered using a Latest, Unit Effectivity, or Date Effectivity configuration specification.
• The system will create rules in the Design Context corresponding to the use of its image associated part in the Configuration Context if preference Workgroup Manager Client > Design In Context > Create Rules For Image Associated CAD Documents is set to Yes. The default value is Yes.
• The system can include in the Design Context CAD Documents that are not related to Parts if preference Workgroup Manager Client > Design In Context > Exclude CAD Documents With No Related Parts is set to No. The default value is Yes.
To create a design context from a part structure configuration context:
1. Click on the New/Update icon in the Design Context action set on the configuration context structure toolbar.
The New Design Context window opens.

• The configuration context must be checked in for the New/Update action to be available.
• The New/Update action is only available when the Show New Design Context Action preference is set to Yes. The default value is No.
2. In the New Design Context window, enter or select entries for the following fields:

Description
Context
The product or library where the new design context is created. Choose a context from the drop-down list or search by clicking on the find icon. The default choice is the context where the configuration context was created.
Organization ID
The globally unique organization identifier to be associated with the new configuration context. Depending on the settings at your site, this field may be labeled CAGE Code or may not appear.

Authoring Application
Select the authoring application from the drop-down list. The selected application is used to modify the data in the design context.

Selecting an authoring application automatically fills in the application Type. The Template Name is automatically filled in when only one template is available. Applications without templates do not appear in the Authoring Application drop-down list. When an authoring application and template are chosen, an Attributes section appears.
Type
Select the CAD data type from the drop-down list.
Template Name
Select the name of a template to use in creating the design context. When the template is chosen, an Attributes section appears.

Selecting a template first causes the Authoring Application and Type fields to be automatically filled in.
Number
Contains the design context number. This number is most often generated by the system and cannot be changed.
Name
Enter a name for the design context. The default name is the same as the configuration context name.
File Name
A name for the CAD data file that references the design context members. The File Name can be entered using the text entry field or set equal to the value of the Number attribute by selecting the Same As Number checkbox. Same As Number is checked by default.

Do not enter the file extension, it is added automatically.
Description
Enter a description to help identify the new design context.
Location
Choose Autoselect Folder or Select Folder. The default for the Select Folder choice is the root folder in the context. Click on the set folder icon to select a different folder location.
Workspace
Select a workspace from the drop-down list.

The list contains all workspaces available to you in the product context where the design context is created.
3. Click OK.
The design context is created.
* 
The workspace content includes the CAD models in the design context plus a new CAD assembly model for the design context itself.
