Setting Security Labels on New Objects in a Workspace

When a new object is created in a workspace, it is considered a new object until it is initially checked in to the commonspace. As long as the object status is New in the workspace, the object is not visible to other users.

• Use the workspace Check In window to apply security labels to New

objects. On the Collect Objects step, select a table view from the Pick a View drop down menu that displays All Security Labels columns. For more information on table views, see Creating and Editing New Table Views.

You can only use the Check In window to set security labels if the object is New

. Once the object has been checked in the first time, during subsequent check-ins security labels will not be modifiable from the workspace Check In window.

The property com.ptc.windchill.uwgm.cadx.checkin.SecurityLabelEditing must be added to the wt.properties file and set to true to enable this functionality. The xconfmanager utility entry for this property is:

• Using the Edit Security Labels action from within the workspace. After an object has been uploaded, the Edit Security Labels action is the only way to set security label values. The Edit Security Labels action can be accessed from the Edit workspace menu or from the actions menu on the object information page.

Use caution when setting security labels using the Check In window on a New

object in the workspace. It is possible to change a security label value to a value for which you are not authorized, in which case the object will not be visible to you once the check-in is complete. It is not possible to set security labels values for which you are not authorized on New objects using the Edit Security Labels or New Part > Set Security Labels windows. Once the object is checked in the first time and no longer has the New

status, then security labels values are viewable but not modifiable on subsequent Check In windows.

You cannot set the security label to a value for which you are not authorized on the working copy of an object checked out to the workspace. An error is thrown and the action is not completed. If an object is checked out to the workspace, changing the security label is not considered a modification and the object will not be marked as Modified. If changing the security label is the only update being made, undo the checkout and change the security label settings on the original version of the object.

If a new object is created in the workspace by upload from a client application such as a Windchill Workgroup Manager, then the object initialization rule for the object is used to set the initial security label values on the object.

If a part is created through auto-association, it has the same security label settings as the associated CAD document. If the auto-association action instead snaps to an existing part, the security label on the existing part is not affected. If you are not cleared for the existing part, then the auto-association fails. If an object initialization rule exists for the object type, and no security label is set on the object within the workspace, then the object initialization rule sets the security label value when the object is initially checked in or uploaded.

If a baseline is created when a user uploads a CAD document, the default security labels for the baseline can be set by an object initialization rule. If the user is not cleared for the security label on the baseline, they cannot see it on the Folders page or the Baselines table for the CAD document.
