About Publish and Thumbnail Control
Access publish and thumbnail control as follows: from the Windchill Navigator, click Publish and Thumbnail Control on the Utilities page of the Site, Organization, Product, Project, or Library context.
Publish and thumbnail control allows you more control of publish and thumbnail, such as holding back on generating visualization data. One of the reasons why you might want to hold back is that your CAD document represents a very large assembly, and you do not want to generate the data because it would take too long.
You can specify one of the following options:
Prohibit publishing (select documents that must not be published).
Prohibit thumbnail creation only (thumbnails only are not generated).
Publish as Positioning Assembly (select certain CAD documents to be published as a positioning assembly).
Publish as Extended Positioning Assembly (select certain CAD documents to be published as an extended positioning assembly).
The publish and thumbnail control respects its context. The search for CAD documents is limited to the current context, and the list of prohibitions applies to the current context.
To control the publishing of a representation for a CAD document, use the following procedure:
1. Enter the Windchill number of the CAD document in the Number field, or click Search to find the document.
2. Enter a description in the Description field. The Prohibit publishing option is selected by default. This prevents the CAD document from being published. For example, it would not get published upon check in from a Windchill Workgroup Manager.
3. Do one of the following:
If you want to publish the CAD document, but do not want to create a thumbnail:Select Prohibit thumbnail creation only.
If you want to publish the CAD document as a positioning assembly with an empty CAD representation:
Select Publish as Positioning Assembly.
If you want to publish the CAD document as a positioning assembly with a user-specified CAD representation (such as “simp rep”):
Select Publish as Extended Positioning Assembly, and enter the name of the assembly in the field provided.
For more information about positioning assemblies, see Publishing as a Positioning Assembly.
4. Click Add. The window refreshes and your CAD document is listed in the Publish Controlled Objects for Site table with a control type of Publish. If you selected Prohibit thumbnail creation only, the CAD document is listed with a control type of Thumbnail. If you selected Publish as Positioning Assembly, the CAD document is listed with a control type of Positioning Assembly. If you selected Publish as Extended Positioning Assembly, the CAD document is listed with a control type of Extended Positioning Assembly.
To allow publishing of a representation, delete a CAD document from the Publish Controlled Objects table by selecting it from the Actions column and clicking the delete icon .
