Administration and Configuration
Windchill Aerospace & Defense configuration methodology (referred to as Configuration Items and Design Solutions in the PTC Solutions Installer) involves specific administration and configuration tasks. It is recommended that you read and understand About Aerospace & Defense Configuration Items and Design Solutions before managing the system.
Initial Configuration
Windchill Aerospace & Defense configuration methodology requires the following setup tasks before the configuration management features can be used in production:
If you do not want to use the out-of-the-box part subtypes, you can create your own subtypes and define appropriate relationship constraints. For more information, see Managing Parts.
Configure effectivity:
1. Create a part (usually an end item, the highest level part in an assembly) for the product structure to provide context for effectivity settings.
2. Configure effectivity properties for change directives.

Specify access control rules so that users cannot revise part subtypes with structure-level properties of Configuration Item or Link Object.
