Phase Workflow
Advanced life cycle templates have the option to associate a workflow with one or more phase or gate. For more information on workflows, see Managing Workflows.
For conceptual information about associating a workflow with a life cycle template phase, see Using Workflow Processes with Life Cycles.
*
When configuring a Windchill ProjectLink routing template, only a single workflow can be associated to the first phase of a life cycle. It does not have a gate process.
1. From the life cycle phase diagram, select the phase for which you want to associate a workflow process.
2. Select the Workflow tab.
3. Determine whether you want to configure a phase process, a gate process, or both:
Phase Process—The workflow automatically initiates when the object enters the specified life cycle phase.
Gate Process—The workflow automatically initiates when the object moves from the selected phase to the next life cycle phase. As a result, the final life cycle phase does not have an option to define a gate process.
4. Click Browse next to the process you want to define.
*
The list of valid workflow templates includes the ones defined in the current context, plus those defined in any parent contexts. Workflow templates defined in a sub-context override and filter out the workflow templates defined in parent contexts having the same name.
5. The Select Process Template window opens. From here, you can select a workflow defined in the root System cabinet, the current context, and all its ancestor contexts. Click OK.
*
If there are templates with the same name, the template located in child context overrides the template in parent context.
6. Select the Use Latest Iteration checkbox to always initiate the latest version of the associated workflow template. Otherwise, the specified iteration of the workflow template will always be used for that life cycle, even if the workflow is subsequently updated.
