Administrator and User Roles
Depending on your role in Windchill, administrators, managers, developers, and other Windchill users can work with SCM and DTS adapters integrated with Windchill Integrations for Embedded Software.
Adapters are Info*Engine adapters that enable connectivity to and from adapters integrated with Windchill and the Windchill Integrations for Embedded Software system. Info*Engine adapters can be run either inside or outside of Windchill.
Site Administrator Responsibilities
Site administrators can set up and manage multiple SCM and DTS adapters for their site that include singular or multiple organizations within the site. Adapters can be set up to interface with different environments by creating projects, products, and libraries for the site, and for singular or multiple organizations within the site.
Site administrators can set up and manage context associations for SCM and DTS adapters in their site.
Organization Administrator Responsibilities
Organization administrators can set up and manage multiple SCM and DTS adapters for their organization which can interface with multiple environments by creating and setting up projects, products, and libraries for their organization.
Organization administrators can set up and manage context associations for SCM adapters in their organization.
Project Manager Capabilities
Project managers can access Project, Product, and Libraries within the Windchill site and organization levels to manage SCM and DTS adapters when those adapters are integrated with Windchill Integrations for Embedded Software.
Integrated adapters can later on be used to share and associate external data with Windchill Integrations for Embedded Software as the link to external content, or as a Windchill object copied from an external system.
Software Manager and Developer Capabilities
Windchill Integrations for Embedded Software provides an integrated environment to manage artifacts of a software build in a central repository. These artifacts could be installers, executables, libraries, DLLs, and related files. Typically, for building a software deliverable a software developer and a software manager share responsibility:
The software developer creates, uploads, and updates software builds.
The software manager views and captures the state of a software build at various stages of product development.
Depending on your role and requirements, you can choose from the following build management operations in Windchill Integrations for Embedded Software:
Create a software build object and attach content.
View and capture the state of a software build at various phases of a Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Associate a software build with defects, Windchill parts, and Windchill documents.
Furthermore, you can use Windchill Integration for Software Build Tools, a Java-based remote client application to automate the build process and directly upload and update software build artifacts in Windchill Integrations for Embedded Software.
User Capabilities
Other Windchill users can browse, select, and change existing context associations that site and organization administrators have setup for their SCM adapters.
Users can also upload and maintain software files, primary source content, and attachment content through various Windchill objects, such as, software documents and software configuration data documents. Software parts can have associated software documents.
