Creating a New Workspace
You may create as many workspaces as you want; however, only one workspace at a time can be the active workspace on a server.
To create a new workspace:
1. Navigate to a page listing the workspaces for your server by selecting the Workspaces link displayed for your context.
*
You can also create a workspace during a checkout or add to workspace action.
2. Click the new workspace icon . The New Workspace window appears.
3. In the Name field, specify a unique name for the workspace.
4. Optionally, in the Description field, enter a description for the workspace.
5. Select a Context for the workspace from the choices available in the menu.
*
You must have both membership in a project and Read access to the project’s cabinet to view a project context in the menu. If no contexts are visible, you are unable to create a new workspace.
*
If your start to type a context name into the Context field, the system presents for your selection any contexts available to you that match your typed text. If there is only one match, it is auto-selected as the context value.
6. Select the Activate Workspace check box (not available in a standalone browser) to make the new workspace active upon creation.
7. Click OK. You receive a confirmation message that the new workspace has been created.
*
Preferences for object life cycles, part view, configuration specification, and folders are set on the Edit Workspace Options page. To set or modify these values, select Edit Preferences from the workspace actions drop-down menu on the workspace page. For more information, see Workspace Preferences
*
You can also create a new workspace through the Windchill Workgroup ManagerServer Management window by selecting New on the Workspace tab. When you create a new workspace through the Server Management window, it immediately becomes your active workspace. (Windchill PDMLink orWindchill ProjectLink only).
*
If you register a project, product, or library in theWindchill Workgroup Manager before explicitly creating a workspace, a default workspace is created with the name "Workspace on <context_name>" (Windchill PDMLink,Windchill ProjectLink only).
