Managing Graphics Dynamic Documents
Graphics dynamic documents are created by Arbortext Editor or by using the workspace File > New > Graphics functionality. They are stored differently from other dynamic documents. However, they are managed in much the same manner as regular dynamic documents, except for some specific behavior as mentioned in the following sections.
*
From a Windchill Folders page, a graphical dynamic document called a graphical information element can be created via the actions menu (Actions > New > New Graphic Information Element). Graphical information elements are managed similarly to graphics dynamic documents.
Check Out
The checkout of graphics dynamic documents is performed in the same manner as with other dynamic documents.
Check Out is accessible from the commonspace (folder page, commonspace information page), as well as from the workspace and workspace information page.
As with other dynamic documents, you must select a target workspace for checkout
Download
For you to work with the content in the graphics dynamic documents, you must download the graphics file into a local directory. You can download the file content by navigating to the graphic’s information page and selecting the Content tab. In the actions column of the Primary Content table, click the download icon .
*
Using the View action to open XML dynamic documents is not supported.
Upload
You can upload graphics dynamic documents by selecting content from your local directory when using an alternate Upload user interface that is specifically for graphics dynamic documents. This alternate user interface is available in two ways:
By selecting Upload from the action menu
By clicking the row level Upload action icon in the workspace
*
The upload action is available only for checked-out or new-in-workspace objects. For graphics dynamic documents, upload is available in both the embedded and standalone browser. For more information, see Using the Graphics Upload Interface.
If the upload action is initiated via the workspace File > Upload action or the workspace toolbar Upload action, the regular Upload page is presented.
*
Both commands are available only in an embedded browser.
If graphics dynamic documents are uploaded via the regular Upload page, then graphics content is not uploaded. That is, a regular upload does not overwrite the content already on the server.
Once graphics content is updated via an upload from HTML client, the updated graphic is also visible and accessible from the Arbortext Editor client.
Check In
Graphics dynamic documents have an alternative user interface that allows you to check in a graphics dynamic document with updated content. See Checking In Graphics Dynamic Documents
If graphics dynamic documents are checked in via the regular Check In user interface, the graphic content stored in the server-side workspace is checked in as well.
