About Included and Inserted Documents
DocStudio allows you to create nested documents, which are subdocuments inside of documents. You can insert or include subdocuments into a parent document.
Insert—When a subdocument is inserted into a parent document, only the reference to the subdocument is displayed.
Include—When a subdocument is included into the parent, its entire contents are displayed as a sequential part of the parent document.
By default, documents are included or inserted only as a reference within a document. To edit the inserted or included document you need to open the document.
*
You cannot include or insert a versioned or a historical document into another document.
Considerations for Included or Inserted Documents
You can delete an included or inserted document. However, you cannot delete the child contents of an included document. The Delete Content option is disabled when you select any child content of the included document or subdocuments within the included document.
If you include a document multiple times in the same destination document, you can expand only the first instance of the included document in the Outline pane. The other instances are displayed only as a reference.
If you insert or include a document into a blank destination document, the included document becomes the first content item of the destination document item.
