Creating a Related Item in DocStudio
You can create a related item in DocStudio by specifying the item type. If the selected item type is a content item and not a process item, you will be prompted to select the document in which the related item will be created.
To create a related item in DocStudio:
1. Open the item in DocStudio and click Edit.
2. Click the relationship field you want to edit.
3. Click in the related items table, to create a new related item. The Select Type and Copy Fields step window opens.
4. Under Item Type, select the item type.
5. Select the Copy Fields check box so that the copy fields for the selected Item Type are pre-populated in the Copy Fields list. Such fields are pre-populated if copy fields for the selected item type were previously configured by your administrator. The check box is selected by default.
6. Add the required fields from the Common Fields list to the Copy Fields list. For more information, see im copyissue.
7. If you selected a process item under Item Type, go to the following step.
If you selected a content item, click Next. The Select Document step window opens. The Select Document table lists the available documents in which the related item can be created.
8. Select a document in the list. If the document is not visible in the Select Document table, click Show More to display the next set of documents in the Select Document table. Alternatively, use column header filters to display only the required documents. Then select a document from the list.
9. Click Proceed.
The Untitled Related Item window opens displaying the selected copy fields with their values.
10. Enter the required details and click Save.
*
An error appears if the relationship is not permitted due to administrator-set system constraints or if you have not filled one or more mandatory fields. In such a case, the relationship is not created.
A status message appears indicating the related item has been created and the item is added to the related items table.
11. Click Proceed in the related items table.
12. Click Save in DocStudio.
Creating Nested Related Items
When creating a related item, you can create a new related item for the item being created, a related item for the next related item being created, and so on. Such items are created as nested related items from the first to the last related item.
To create such nested related items:
In the Untitled Related Item window, similar to the previous procedure, select the Relationships tab and click to create a related item.
Follow the steps in the window that opens and click Proceed. Then click Save in the Untitled Related Item window.
If you click Cancel and select Discard in the confirmation window, all your edits are lost and the Untitled Related Item window for the previous related item opens.
Click in the information box to view the related item level.
*
You can create nested related items many levels deep. PTC recommends creating not more than five levels of nested related items.
