Working in the Service Product Structure Explorer
The Service Product Structure Explorer allows you to view multiple assemblies in a dual structure mode. When in dual navigation pane mode parts and assemblies can be dragged and dropped from upstream and downstream views to create a service BOM.
When working in Dual Structure mode the downstream configuration specification is taken from the assembly displayed in the downstream navigation pane and the upstream configuration specification is taken from the assembly displayed in the upstream navigation pane.
When in dual structure mode:
Setting upstream and downstream configuration specification actions are disabled. Navigation criteria is taken from the navigation criteria in the left pane, and the navigation criteria of the right pane.
The upstream and downstream equivalent part and occurrence columns of the navigation pane are disabled.
To view the Service Product Structure Explorer in dual structure mode:
1. Open a Service Product Structure Explorer.
2. Select View > Open as Downstream or Open as Upstream.
*
When using the Open as Upstream option the selected part appears in the left-hand side of the dual structure pane, which is the upstream window. All equivalent downstream parts are displayed in the right-hand side of the dual structure pane. When using the Open as Downstream option the selected part appears in the right-hand side of the dual structure pane, which is the downstream window. All equivalent upstream parts are displayed in the left-hand side of the dual structure pane.
Available Actions
The following actions are available from the structure pane toolbars when working in dual structure mode:
Dual Structure Pane Task Tool Bar

Action
Description
Open Part
Opens the Search window where you can search for an existing part to open.
Close active structure
Closes the active structure.
Edit Filter
Opens the Edit Filter window allowing you to change the configuration specifications used in your display.
Show Filter List
Displays a list of filters currently in use.
Refresh
Updates the structure of the selected object according to the current configuration specification.
Open In Explorer
Opens the selected BOM in a new explorer window. See Opening Objects in an Explorer.
*
This action does not automatically refresh the window. If you want to ensure that you are working with the latest iteration of the part in the new window, refresh the window.
Select In Explorer
Use to select the selected object and its related objects in an open explorer or selection tab. See Selecting Objects in an Explorer.
Send Root Node in Downstream Tree
Send Root Node in Upstream Tree
If an upstream assembly is selected, this option moves the assembly to the downstream view to be used as a downstream part. If a downstream view is selected, this option moves the assembly to the upstream view to be used as an upstream part.
Assemble Under New Part
Creates a new downstream part and then creates new equivalent links to the copied upstream part. When selected the New Name, New Unit of Measure, and New Number (if the auto-numbering option is disabled) columns can be updated. If the copied part is an assembly of parts, no children are created.
Paste As New Part
Creates a new downstream part and then creates new equivalent links to the copied upstream part. When selected the New Name, New Unit of Measure and New Number (if the auto-numbering option is disabled) columns can be updated. If the copied part is an assembly of parts, no children are created.
Replace with New Downstream Part Number
Adds the copied part and its upstream structure, and creates new equivalence links between the downstream BOM and the upstream BOM.
Update Positioning
If occurrence links exist, this option updates the structural position of a downstream part relative to its equivalent upstream part, if the upstream part has been moved to a new position in the assembly.
Update Usage Options
Processes downstream usages for which at least one valid occurrence link can be found to an upstream BOM.
Update Equivalent Part
Updates a part's equivalent link to the latest equivalent part's version. If the updated downstream part is an assembly, the positioning of the child parts is also updated.
Remove Selected Assembly and Move Up Child Parts
Removes the selected assembly node and moves all children to the next available parent in the hierarchy.
The following actions are available from the middle pane when working in dual structure mode.

Description
Open Equivalent Part in other Tree
Displays the equivalent part of the selected part in the opposing structure pane.
Create Equivalence Link
Creates an equivalent link between the part selected in the upstream structure pane, and the part selected in the downstream structure pane.
Reconcile Selected Structures
Reconciles differences between source and service BOM parts.
Assemble As Selected Part
Adds the copied part and its upstream structure, and creates new equivalence links between the downstream BOM and the upstream BOM.
Assemble As New Part
Creates a new downstream part.
Select Equivalent Part in other Tree
Selects the equivalent part of the selected part in the opposing structure pane.
