Creating a Context Template
*
Only site administrators can create organization templates. Site and organization administrators can create product, library, program, and project templates. For more information, see Accessing Context Templates.
Use the following procedure to create a context template for organizations, products, libraries, programs, and projects:
1. On your system, create the template data file that you want to store as a Windchill organization, product, library, program, or project template. This file is usually a ZIP or JAR file.
*
The recommended method of creating the template data file is to use your Windchill solution to create an initial context by selecting one of the out-of-the-box templates or using a template that PTC has made available to you. Then make modifications to the context (such as creating folder structures, policy rules, and document templates) through the interface provided. When your modifications are complete, you can either export a context into a ZIP file or save the current context as a template.
*
The ZIP file created by selecting the Download action from a context template row on the Templates table cannot be used as the template data file for creating a context template; it does not contain all of the required information that is needed to create a new context template. However, the downloaded ZIP file can be used to update an existing context template.
2. Navigate to the context under which you want the template stored.
If you want to create templates for a specific organization, select the desired organization under Organizations .
If you want to create templates for the entire site, navigate to Site .
3. Click the Templates link.
The Templates page appears.
4. Select type of context template from the table view drop-down list.
From Site > Templates, you can select any of the following:
Library Templates
Organization Templates (Windchill Arbortext Content Manager or Windchill PDMLink only)
Product Templates
Program Templates
Project Templates
From Organizations > Templates, you can select any of the following:
Library Templates
Product Templates
Program Templates
Project Templates
5. After the context template type is set in the table view drop-down list, click the icon that appears at the top of the table. For example, click the new template icon to create a product template.
A new window opens in which you enter values needed to create the template.
6. From the Template File field, click Browse to locate the template data file you created in step 1. This file must have an extension that is either XML, ZIP, or JAR.
7. In the template name field, enter a name for the organization, product, library, or project template that is unique in the context you are in. You can enter up to 200 characters.
8. In the Description field, enter a description of the template. You can enter up to 4000 characters.
9. Select the Enabled check box to allow others to select the template when creating a context.
Clear the Enabled check box to keep the template private. If you do not select the Enabled check box, others are not able to use the template.
10. Click OK to validate the template, create the template in the current context, and close the window. The Templates page refreshes to show your new template.
