Defining Replacements in a Part Structure
You can define both
alternate and substitute part relationships from the
Structure tab on a part information page. An alternate part relationship applies globally, to all assemblies that use the part. A substitute part relationship is specific to the assembly where you create the relationship.
Adding a Replacement Relationship
Use the following procedure to add alternate and substitute parts:
1. Select Manage Replacements from the right-click actions menu. The Manage Replacements window opens.
2. From the relationship table you want to update, click one of the following icons:
◦ Add alternate part
◦ Add substitute part
3. The Find window opens. Locate the replacement part and click OK. The parts are added to the associated table.
4. For alternate parts, determine the type of relationship in the Two-Way column.
◦ Select Yes if the parts can be alternates for each other.
◦ Select No if the alternate part can be used for the current child part, but the current child part cannot be used as an alternate for the alternate part.
5. For substitute parts, optionally enter information in the Quantity and Reference Designator columns.
The quantity and reference designators are used to label occurrences of the substitute part in the parent assembly when a replace action is performed. Enter reference designators following the same conventions used when they are entered in the Occurrences or Uses tabs of the product structure browser.
6. Click
OK in the
Manage Replacements window to complete the action. Newly added replacement parts are added beneath the selected part in the part structure. For more information, see
Viewing Related Information in a Structure.
Removing a Replacement

icon.
