Working with Standard Control Characteristics in Process Plan Browser
You can perform the following operations in the Control Characteristics tab of a Process Plan Browser:
Add an existing or a new standard control characteristic
Copy, paste, remove a standard control characteristic
Duplicate and paste a standard control characteristic
Update a model item
Assign a control characteristic from product or process
Update a model item
Customize the control characteristic table view
Key Points
In order to support and publish standard control characteristics in Windchill MPMLink, an administrator is required perform certain configurations in Creo Parametric and Windchill. The details of this configuration are available in the following article on PTC.com: https://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/solution.jsp?n=CS275132
You can copy and duplicate standard control characteristics from one operation to the same or another operation. You can use the Copy Standard Control Characteristic action to copy and Duplicate and Paste Control Characteristic action to duplicate the control characteristics. When you copy and duplicate standard control characteristics from an operation to the same or another operation, the Manufacturing Operation to Standard Control Characteristic Link attributes are copied by the system. For more information see Control Characteristics Tab.
Consider that an operation present under a process plan has a standard control characteristic associated with it. When you create a sub-operation for the operation, the standard control characteristic information is also copied over. For example, the representation data of a standard control characteristic present in the operation is also visible in the standard control characteristic present in the sub-operation.
Consider that an operation present under a process plan has a CAD document associated with it. You add a new child operation under the operation. You can select the new child operation and create a standard control characteristic for the child operation. In this case, the CAD document is not associated with the child operation.
Consider that an operation present under a process plan has no CAD document associated with it. You add a new child operation under the operation. You can select the new child operation and create a standard control characteristic for the child operation. In this case, the CAD document that is open in the 3D picker visualization area is associated with the child operation.
Consider that a process plan has two operations under it. The first operation has a CAD document associated with it. The second operation does not have a CAD document associated with it. When you create a standard control characteristic for the second operation, the system associates the CAD document associated with the first operation to the second operation.
After the creation of a standard control characteristic, the system hides the consumed model annotation from the tree picker visualization area.
Consider that an operation present under a process plan has a CAD document associated with it. You add a new child operation under the operation. You can use the Assign Control Characteristic from Process action in the Control Characteristics tab of a Process Plan Browser to create standard control characteristics for the child operation. In this case, the system displays the graphical representation values and standard control characteristic attributes in the Control Characteristics tab of a Process Plan Browser.
When you use the Duplicate and Paste Control Characteristic action, the system creates a standard control characteristic using the copied standard control characteristic. The newly created standard control characteristic has a new Number.
When you use the Paste action, the system creates a standard control characteristic using the copied standard control characteristic. The newly created standard control characteristic has the same Number as that of the copied standard control characteristic.
When you copy standard control characteristics from an operation to the same or another operation, the Manufacturing Operation to Standard Control Characteristic Link (usage link) attributes are also copied by the system.
When you copy standard control characteristics from an operation to the same or another operation, the following usage link attributes are also copied by the system:
Manufacturing Standard Control Characteristic Usage to Document Describe Link
Manufacturing Standard Control Characteristic Usage to Process Plan Link
Manufacturing Standard Control Characteristic Usage to Resource Link
The system displays the Relationship Constraints tab when you open the link type information page of the following two usage attributes:
Manufacturing Standard Control Characteristic to Resource Link
Manufacturing Standard Control Characteristic Usage to Resource Link
For more information, see Relationship Constraints Tab.
In the BOM Transformer, when you copy standard control characteristics from a part or enterprise data to another part or enterprise data, the Associative to Standard Control Characteristic Link attributes are also copied by the system.
