Content Holders for Information Elements
Information element content holders reference content in a service structure. Each content holder is associated with an information element. If the information element is a textual or graphic element, you can open the object in an associated application, such as Arbortext Editor or Creo Illustrate. You can also publish a representation of the content associated with the content holder.
The content holder information page is a collection point for information related to a content holder. You access the information page for a content holder in the following ways:
Click a content holder in a service structure table (such as Folder view) and choose next to it.
Click a content holder in a service structure pane and choose View Information from the shortcut menu.
Actions
Information pages contain a list of applicable actions available from the Actions menu in the upper left corner. See Actions Common Among Objects for a list of available actions. The availability of these actions depends on the status of the content holder, as well as your access to it. For more information about status indicators, see Object Status.
The following actions are of interest for content holders:
Action
Description
Open in
Enables you to open the associated content in another application. Depending on the type of information element, you see the following choices:
Open Content in Arbortext Editor — Opens a textual information element associated with the content holder in Arbortext Editor.
Open Content in Parts List Editor — Opens a parts list information element associated with the content holder in the Parts List Editor.
Open Content in Creo Illustrate — Opens a graphic information element associated with the content holder in Creo Illustrate.
Open in Creo View — Launches the default representation in Creo View. If there is no default representation, Creo View opens with no representation.
Check In
Checks in the content holder. This action is available only if you have permission to update a content holder and it is currently checked out.
When a content holder is checked in, this action is disabled, and the Check Out action is enabled.
For more information on the check in action, see Checking In an Object.
Check Out
Checks out the content holder. This action is available only if you have permission to update a content holder and it is currently checked in.
When a content holder is checked out, this action is unavailable from the list, and the Check In and Undo Check Out actions are enabled.
For more information on the check out action, see Checking Out an Object.
Undo Checkout
Releases the reservation on a checked out content holder without saving any changes. No new iteration of the content holder is created.
You can only undo the checkout of a content holder that you have previously checked out.
For more information on the undo checkout action, see Undoing a Checkout.
Edit Attributes
Opens the Edit Attributes window. From this window you can edit the content holder’s attributes. Editing the attributes changes these values for just the current iteration of the content holder.
Assign Item Choices
Opens the Assign Item Choices window. From this window you can assign options to the content holder.
This choice is only available when the object is checked out and an option set has been assigned to the product. For more information on the assigning item choices action, see Assigning Choices to Service Structure Objects.
Save As
Opens the Commonspace Save As window, enabling you to create a new content holder based on the current one.
You can include dependent objects in the Save As table by changing the selection in the Dependents menu list to All. However, this does not include the objects associated with content holders in the table. To do that, select the content holders in the table and click the Collect related CAD / Dynamic documents button in the toolbar to add the documents related to content holders to the table.
After you have all of the dependent objects you want in the table, you can select them and use Exclude and Reuse to determine which objects to include in the new structure.
Add Graphical Representation
Opens the New Graphical Representation window enabling you to add graphical representations to the content holder of the information element. This action is available in the Representations/Annotations table toolbar.
The representation that is marked as the default, is the thumbnail used in Arbortext Content Delivery. Arbortext Content Delivery supports PNG, JPG, and JPEG thumbnails.
*
To use a graphical representation associated with the information element as the default representation for thumbnails, copy the representation to the Representations/Annotations table of the content holder.
Publish Representation
Opens the Publish Representation window, enabling you to publish the content associated with the content holder. To view the representation after it has been created, add a new tab to the service structure information page and select Customize > General > Representations/Annotations. This adds the Representations/Annotations table to your custom tab.
For more information, see Publishing from a Service Structure.
Add to
Provides a submenu enabling you to add the content holder to the following areas:
Add to Baseline — Opens the Add to Baseline window, enabling you to add the most recent version of the object to a baseline. You have the option to also collect the objects related to the structure.
Add to Managed Collection — Opens the Add to Managed Collection window, enabling you do add the object to a managed collection.
Add to My Notebook — Opens the Add to My Notebook window, enabling you to add the object to your notebook in the folder location you select.

Compare
Displays a submenu where you can choose how to compare the content holder in the following areas:
Compare Information — Opens a window to search for a content holder to compare against the current one.
After a content holder is selected, a second window opens to select comparison options. Comparison results are then displayed in the Comparison Report window.
For more information on comparing information, see Comparing Object or Version Information.
Compare to Part Structure — Compares the current content holder to another one of your choosing in a side-by-side comparison window.
For more information on comparing two part structures, see Compare to Part Structure.
