Deleting a Part
Deleting a part removes it completely from the Windchill database. It is only possible to delete parts when you have the proper access privileges and when the integrity of relationships to other objects is preserved. For example, you can only delete a part from the end of the version sequence. In another example, you cannot delete a part that is used in the product structure of another part. Each delete operation is analyzed by the system and all conflicts are reported.
The part delete operation follows this pattern:
• Select the part to delete.
• Collect additional related objects to include in the delete operation.
• Windchill checks the list of objects to be deleted and notifies the user if conflicts are encountered.
• The user resolves conflicts, if possible, and completes the delete operation.
The exact procedure for deleting a part is as follows:
1. Navigate to the information page of the part to be deleted.
2. Select Delete from the Actions menu. The Delete window is displayed.
3. Use the collection actions in the icon bar to select additional objects to be deleted in the same operation.

The system will encounter fewer conflicts if all of the related objects are deleted at the same time. For more information on using object collection, see About the Collector

4. Select delete options from the choices beneath the collected objects. The options are:
◦ Delete all iterations of each object included in the table — Choose this option to delete all the iterations of objects selected to be deleted.
or
◦ Delete all revisions of each object included in the table — Choose this option to delete all revisions and associated iterations of objects selected to be deleted.
or
◦ Delete latest iterations of each object included in the table — Choose this option to delete only the latest iteration of objects selected to be deleted.
Select Run action in the background to free your session for other actions while the delete operation is being completed.
5. Click OK to complete the delete operation.

If no conflicts are encountered by the system the objects are deleted. If conflicts exist the Event Manager window is displayed showing what objects caused exceptions during the delete operation. If the exceptions can be overridden you can correct the condition and retry the delete operation. For more information about the Event Manager and processing conflicts, see:
