Visualizing Large Structures with QuickView
Loading and visualizing large structures effectively in Windchill requires an integrated business process approach. Underlying web technology prevents utilization of more than 4GB memory in any given tab. WVS thus provides the capability of QuickView for effectively visualizing large structures while using a smaller memory footprint.
QuickView thumbnails are highly compressed shape objects of assembly that capture only outer visible surfaces and reduce the surfaces for faster loading. QuickView enables you to generate, load, and interact with highly compressed shrinkwrap modules and surfaces that represents the exterior shape of any designated engineering module. QuickView thus enables you to represent complex design assemblies with one lightweight part, improving the system performance with large assemblies. QuickView helps load the large structures faster as well as have better control on where to expand and get more details.
Supported Windchill Structure and Content Browsers
QuickView currently supports the following:
Part Structure Browser
CAD Structure Browser
BOM Transformer
Process Plan Browser
Manufacturing Resource Browser
Service Associative Product Structure Browser (SAPSB)
Advanced Manufacturing Resource Browser
Workflow
The following is a general workflow to define the QuickView:
1. The publishing process generates and stores QuickView thumbnail for the designated objects.
2. When viewing the structure, it loads the QuickView thumbnails for the nodes where it exists provided the QuickView preferences are enabled. You can view the updated information in the QuickView column with visible designations as assigned to these nodes.
3. Windchill provides the user actions for expanding QuickView thumbnail to the detailed structure of the nodes loaded as a QuickView thumbnail.
Limitations
Visualizations loaded with QuickView may be less accurate in the following scenarios:
The applied filters like spatial, path, attribute, or options filter can cause some children to be filtered out from the structure.
The applied configuration specification might not resolve to the exact iteration to match with QuickView.
Visualization loaded with QuickView for a given node, may display outer-surface of a child component regardless of any access restrictions applied for the child component.
*
The preference Load QuickView for nodes having filtered structure allows you to load the QuickView. By default, the value of this preference is set to No. You can choose to load the QuickView by setting the preference Load QuickView for nodes having filtered structure to Yes.
For more details see Setting Preferences
QuickView will be loaded only in the supported structure browsers. Non supported browsers such as configurations context, design context, locator editor, and structure compare browser, will load the complete structure.
WRS API and Navigate app do not support QuickView functionality.
For the imagelink associated parts and CAD represented parts, the state displayed in the QuickView column of structure visualization may not be consistent with the loaded state.
