PTC FlexPLM uses synchronized types when multiple types share the same type tree hierarchy. Multiple types are grouped together in a synchronized type set because they are related from a business perspective. Each synchronized type set is made up of a primary and one or more secondary types. For customers upgrading from a previous release of PTC FlexPLM, synchronized types replace the concept of scope and level context.

In a synchronized type set, type hierarchy changes in one type hierarchy are automatically reflected on the other type. For example:
