ServiceMax Data Protection and Compliance
This section explains about achieving ServiceMax data protection and compliance with Salesforce Shield platform encryption. This information is intended for Salesforce Administrators, ServiceMax Partners, or Security Engineers, who are using the ServiceMax Field Service Software.
This section provides guidelines and limitations with respect to ServiceMax features when applying Salesforce Shield Platform encryption.
Companies of all sizes are using Salesforce to run their businesses faster. As adoption of Salesforce for critical business capabilities grows, preventing data loss becomes critically important. With more sensitive data in the cloud, security and compliance requirements also become increasingly complex.
Much of this can be attributed to the efforts of leading cloud service providers like Salesforce in securing customers’ data and providing robust features that are required by enterprise customers using Salesforce Shield Platform Encryption.
With support for data encryption at rest, ServiceMax, the market leader in Field Service Solution, is recommending a balanced approach to encryption at rest for data protection, while maintaining the integrity of the product’s features that benefit customers. The ServiceMax Field Service Software can be fully integrated with Salesforce Shield Platform Encryption as long as the guidelines in this document are followed.
PaaS Security
Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) is a cloud computing service that provides a platform which enables customers to develop, run, and manage applications. The service provider maintains the infrastructure for developing and launching the applications.
According to the 2019 McAfee Cloud Adoption and Risk Report, only 8% of the 25,000 cloud services in use today meet the data security requirements. Only 1 in 10 encrypt data at rest, and just 18% support multi-factor authentication.
Data residing with the service provider, might have some elements of security that are outside customer’s control. For example, physical security responsibility resides with the service provider.
Therefore, data security has consistently been a major issue in the cloud computing environment. It is of serious concern especially as the data is located at different locations throughout the globe. Today data security and privacy protection are the two main factors of concern among customers regarding cloud technology.
Salesforce Shield Platform Encryption
In today’s world, data security is a top priority for customers. Security breaches can be catastrophic. Salesforce recognizes this threat and has discovered that customers who need an additional layer of protection typically take a practical but conservative approach to data protection in the cloud. These customers have the following requirements:
Encrypt sensitive data when it is stored at rest in the Salesforce cloud
Support customer-controlled encryption key life cycles
Preserve Web Application and App Cloud functionality
To meet the customers' requirements, Salesforce offers Platform Encryption as part of Salesforce Shield. With Salesforce Shield Platform Encryption, one can encrypt data at rest.
