Event-driven notifications
Receive automatic alerts when records change, campaigns reach milestones, or scheduled jobs complete, delivered through the in-app notification system.
Overview
Automation loses value if users do not know when something happens. Event-driven notifications in PTC Orbit close this gap by alerting users the moment a relevant event occurs: a work order status changes, a campaign generates its target records, or a colleague updates a shared asset. Notifications appear under the bell icon in the upper-right corner of the app header, providing a single stream of actionable updates without requiring users to poll individual modules.
Each notification links directly to the record that triggered it. Click a notification, and the associated work order, campaign, or asset opens in a new browser tab. This direct linkage turns passive awareness into immediate action.
How it works
PTC Orbit generates notifications when specific record-level events occur. The notification engine evaluates each event against the conditions configured for the current user and delivers matching alerts to their notification stream.
Common triggers include:
Work order status changes. A technician completes a work order, and the assigned service manager receives a notification.
Campaign milestones. A campaign finishes generating all target work orders, and the campaign owner receives confirmation.
Asset record updates. A field value changes on a tracked asset, and users subscribed to that asset receive an alert.
Cross-team collaboration. A team member adds notes or changes priority on a shared record, and collaborators receive an update notification.
You manage notifications from the notification modal. Remove individual items after acting on them, or clear the entire list to reset. Unread notifications display a count badge on the bell icon.
Considerations
Notifications are in-app only. PTC Orbit does not send email or SMS alerts through the built-in notification system.
Clicking a notification opens the linked record in a new browser tab. The original page remains open and does not navigate away.
Cleared notifications cannot be recovered. Before clearing all, verify that no unresolved items remain in the list.
