Reusing a package from a different CM tool model (CM tool integration)
There are two ways of reusing a Package. You can reuse a Package from another CM tool project, or you can share the Package file you want to reuse with your CM tool project. For more information, click here
There are two commands for reusing Packages:
• Through the Import New Packages command on the Configuration Management submenu - Use this command if you want to reuse the latest version of a Package. This command is not available for IBM Rational ClearCase.
• Through the Import command on the Package Import/Export submenu - Use this command if you want to reuse a previous version of a Package, or if you are working with IBM Rational ClearCase.
• If you reuse a Package from another CM tool project and you check out that Package, the Package is checked out from the CM tool project from which it was reused.
• To add a Package from another CM tool Model, you require read access to the CM tool Package you are going to reuse, write access to the CM tool Package that is going to own the reused Package, and Owner access permissions to the Modeler Package that is going to own the reused Package.
To reuse a Package from a different CM tool Model (Import New Packages command)
1. From Modeler, check out the Package that will own the reused Package.
How?
2. Right-click the Package that will own the reused Package, point to Tools > Configuration Management and then clickImport New Packages
3. Select the CM tool project in which the Package resides, and then click OK
4. Select the Package you want to add, and then click OK
5. If a message about users being able to change the Packages in Modeler is displayed, click OK
6. Check in the Package that now owns the reused Package.
How?
To reuse a Package from a different CM tool Model (Import command)
If you are a ClearCase user wanting to reuse the latest version of a Package, you do not have to get or check out the Package in Step1. In Step 4, select the required vob subfolder.
1. From the CM tool, get or check out the version of the Package you want to reuse to a folder.
2. From Modeler, check out the Package that will own the reused Package.
How?
3. Right-click the Package that will own the reused Package, point to Tools > Configuration Management, point to Package Import/Export, and then click Import
4. Select the folder you used in Step 1.
5. Select the Package you want to add, and then click OK
6. If a message about users being able to change the Packages in Modeler is displayed, click OK
7. Check in the Package that now owns the reused Package.
