Point to point connection (dictionary item)
For automation interface information about a Point to Point Connection (P2P Connection through the automation interface), see P2p connection (automation interface).
A Point to Point Connection is a communication link used to link Boards, Disks, Interface Devices and Subsystems with each other on a System Architecture Diagram.
The Protocol, Speed and Width of a Point to Point Connection is specified by a linked Point to Point Connection Type.
You create a Point to Point Connection through the System Architecture Diagram. Modeler creates a Point to Point Connection when you add a Link from a Board, Disk, Interface Device or Subsystem to another Board, Disk, Interface Device or Subsystem.
When used on a diagram, a Point to Point Connection's notation is as follows:
The direction of a Point to Point Connection is represented as follows:
In the Modeler panes, a short-cut symbol on the Point to Point Connection's icon indicates that the item is a stub.
The access permissions you have to a Point to Point Connection are determined by the access permissions you have to the source item. Note that the Board does not own the Point-to-point Connections that are linked to the Board's Board IO Device.
The following sections provide information about how a Point to Point Connection is used in the model. For more information about a property, item, model part or diagram, click it.
Properties
In addition to the standard properties, a Point to Point Connection has these properties:
Constraints
Direction (Flow Direction through the automation interface) - Specifies None, Start-End, End-Start or Bi-directional.
Owned by
Board
Disk
Interface Device
Subsystem
*
A Point to Point Connection is owned jointly by the two items it links, that is, if either item is deleted the Point to Point Connection is deleted as well. The access permissions you have to a Point to Point Connection are determined by the access permissions you have to the source item.
Owns
Comment
Dependency - The Dependency is owned jointly by the Point to Point Connection and the other associated item. The access permissions you have to a Dependency are determined by the access permissions of the dependent item.
